I think a lot of people here will be spitting feathers when they realise the Dembele replacement is already at the club.

Based on pre season, I’m convinced Pochettino has taken a look at England / Man City and thought 433 looks tasty and I have the players for it. Dembele suddenly becomes obsolete as he’s neither progressive enough for the 8 or 10 slots that Silva and De Bruyne play, not is he defensive enough to do what Fernandinho does. He’s a double pivot player where you pair two all rounders together.

Think of it this way:

GK
RB RCB LCB LB
Dier
Eriksen Dele
RW _____________ LW
FW

FW
RW _____________ LW
Winks Grealish
Wanyama
LB LCB RCB RB
GK
That’s two very good DMs, two brilliant ACMs and two of the highest potential young ACMs in Europe.
I've long presumed this is the reason we aren't being linked or seem to be chasing the top end midfielders. If anything Dembeles place in the 11 is likely to go to a winger, hence our most premium targets seem to be in this area.

That would certainly explain why Poch has been so keen to add a wing forward, if we don't get one in we'll be very short in that department to be able to play this formation effectively.
This explains why we need one more winger, we only have 2 really with Lamela as hybrid AM
True, though if we sign more than one CM it frees up Dele/ Eriksen to play that role when need be, much like iniesta often did. Not ideal though.

People who thinks Dele can fill Dembeles shoes is beyond naive.

Has been a great player for us but it's been clear that he is struggling to be fully fit for a full season and this is only going to get more difficult for him. This is also the last window (probably) that we are likely to get a decent fee for him. As sad as I will be at seeing him play for another Premiership club - if we have a good replacement lined up then it makes sense to sell him now.

This is the key - and I don't think we do...

I don't want someone to fill his shoes tbh, if we're playing 433 the CMs need to be able to shoot and make some quick passes.

Dele does both of those things better than Dembele imo.

Absolutely gutted if he goes. He's a true cult hero, and I'm sad we never got to give him a deserved send-off.

I look forward to him returning to our shiny new stadium to a great ovation (unless he signs for Fulham, in which case it'll be a half-full Wembley)...

Agree- not really ideal. Can see Lamela being part of the attacking/advanced midfield as a Dele alternative. With two genuine WF in the 433, am extra WF makes a lot of sense. Especially one with pace and directness- not really Eriksen or Dele’s natural qualities

Totally different role though. Dele would be the spare man in a 3 man midfield, there to break the lines and roam across the final third to where he’d be most dangerous, much like Lampard used to.

Your comment would be the same in reverse: people who thinks Dembele can fill Deles shoes is beyond naive.

Dembele is wonderful in a double pivot but he’s obsolete in a 3, at least for an attacking side. Different story if it’s for a bus parker.

Dele has not been so good in that role has he?

I love Dembele, but even I have come to conclusion its time for him to move on. But it hurts.

Wonder what the fee is - surely looking at around at least £30m to sell him to another Premier League club?
I think it'll be to one of the newly promoted teams, and it'll be around £20m. Would be surprised if we got anything more than that.

he played CM at MK, we haven't played 433 at Spurs so no guarantee how he'd do as one of the CMs

For England it wasn't amazing, but in our setup it could work better.

Him still making his late runs from LCM excites me though.

True. With Moura still unknown and Son off to Asia soon, if we are to go 433 then a fast direct wideman is needed. Maybe after all these years my username will finally be listened to? ?

I sat west stand upper, just left of the half way line (so towards the north stand), prime viewing for Ginola rampages up the wing, he was always a second half player!

Worked a great with Bale too.
I might have posted this before but a Spurs fan I knew at that time was a genuine lunatic scrapper. He’d fight himself if he was pissed enough. Anyway, he once said, “if I came home from work and caught the missus in bed with Ginola, I’d make him a cup of tea and warm
his car up for him.”
The power of a genuine spurs flair player
