We are third in the league and selling a player who has played 500 minutes of PL footie at somewhat questionable quality. The crazy decision has been not to secure a replacement over several windows.
I'm not sure we directly replaced Bale but instead we bought players like Eriksen, Son and Dele who have given us a different dynamic in the attacking midfielder position. My point being is that we may also not find a direct replacement for Dembele but likewise our game can progress without him with new players of different qualities. One could argue that replacements have already been bought in central midfield with Wanyama and Sissoko, both bought by Poch and both contributing to our depth of options in that position

Levy looks after that side very well

Never said he didn’t, but if we don’t bring anyone in ( and I’m sure we won’t) then it’s difficult to sustain competing in 4 competitions throughout the season.

We would be weakening the squad.

It’s not like we are are going to receive a serious wedge for him now either.

Very much a football decision. Dembele, non hg, highly paid, very injury prone, both takes up a spot which could be given to a signing who’d improve us, and slows the development of someone like Skipp the longer he remains. Last season Dembele’s best had already become infrequent, this season even when fit we’ve not seen it. I’ve loved watching him but whether no or in the summer, his card is up.

Do you honestly think we’ll make a signing to replace him now if he leaves in Jan?

I really thought we'd keep him until the end of the season.

Could of been huge playing him at City and Anfield. Really thought Poch was going to use him in a very selective way for the remainder of the season.

Combine this with Wanyama's problems and I'll be staggered if we don't bring in a Poch target.

We're fighting on four fronts!!

Stupid stupid decision if we don't bring anyone else in. Wanyama I would not even factor in with his problems and Skipp is still learning. That leaves three senior central midfielders, and it's not exactly three world class options, as harsh as that comes across. Dembele hasn't declined so rapidly that he can bring nothing positive to this team, that's absolute bollocks IMO.

Leaving us to fight on four fronts with a central midfield of just Dier, Sissoko and Winks sounds like something we would do though to be honest.

Sadly, a business decision rather than a football one.

I imagine it's also Dembele's preference as he'll get a stupidly crazy wage on a two or three year contract. Last year Oscar left Chelsea for a £400k per week salary in China! If I was a player and I knew my time at the top level was coming to an end due to age / fitness issues (like Dembele must do) I'd jump at that sort of money coupled with the experience to live in China for 3 years.
