Was about to have a pop about him with what I thought was a pretty poor first 20 mins of the second half, and then he rammed that down my throat. Fair play. Last ditch block was brilliant, as was the ball to Doherty, and just generally he went up a level the more desperate we got to score, which is all you can ask from any player.

Mentioned in Leic vs Spurs thread but his awareness and intelligence to pull back Bergwijn from the crowd and gettign sent off was incredible!

He needs to be left sitting in front of the 3 at the back defending the 3 cbs. And told to pass the ball to others as soon as. Thought he was poor for most of the game. Balls bouncing off him. Really slack passing. But showed up at the end. 3 in midfield is just so much better for him.

I agree. Think he's best suited in a 3 being the deep lying midfielder mopping up. However we know Conte loves that player to be conducting the tempo of the game - Pirlo, Brozovic etc. Probably even why we see Winks deeper because of this. So not quite sure where he fits eventually but you'd rather him in your squad than not. Think the stick he gets is unfair considering he has been run into the ground for 2 years now...

Good game last night but at the end when emotions are high and he has the foresight to pull stevie back from the crowd so he didn’t get sent off, that is exactly the type of leadership we need to win things, fine margins.

Stevie gets sent off and the momentum and positive feeling from the last min win would’ve been dampened a bit and also he’d not be available for Chelsea but because of PEH we carry massive momentum and Stevie will be available vs CheLsea.

He might not be the best player technically or the quickest player and at some point upgrading on him to a Kessie etc would be a good idea but we’ve said for a long time that we lack leaders especially in the middle of the park, we’ll they don’t come much better than him.

Hats off to you Pierre ?

Yeah he was top notch last night...more of that please.

Feel he's been a bit underwhelming this season but last night was much more like it.

I've always liked him. He is a little limited in his general play and he has played an enormous amount of football over the last two years, he always looks a bit knackered hauling himself about by the end of matches. But he has an elite mentality. He comes across so well in interviews. Most of all, he clearly gives a shit. That should be the bare minimum for a pro footballer but we all know that hasn't been the case with a lot of our players in recent times.

I'm not saying he should start every game - especially if we buy a new centre mid, but talk of selling is mad. He's a leader and a great character to have in the team.

Guy gets a lot of stick for his lack of technical ability on the ball, but he was immense last night - so many ball recoveries, high energy and work rate for 97 mins, quality ball to Doherty for the equaliser, and still had the presence of mind after the winner to stop Bergy getting a second yellow for jumping in the crowd. Fantastic performance.

I’m failing to see that.. he was immense for that last 20 mins .. before that he was pretty ordinary and his usual irish line dancing hands down by his sides running around like a headless chicken. He would get he ball , look up and tyhen pas sbackwards.. 90% of the time .Skipp carried way more of the midfield burden

If he can recreate that lat 20 mins of actually tackling and passinf forward, then we have a player on our hands.

Can’t believe the stick this guy gets. Since he arrived he’s barely missed a match, and if that doesn’t illustrate his importance to the team, I guess nothing will. He could probably do with a break, but the fact that he’s there every week shows what a top pro he is. If people want to moan about a lack of creativity, why not pop on over to the Lo Celso or Ndombele threads and have at it.

My MTOM last night, vital in both last min goals, fantastic pass in 1st, great interception and drive forward in 2nd, fantastic block earlier in match also, a machine, showed in match how talented he is when on form and coached right.

The thing with peh is all his best games is when he is playing higher up the pitch, for me he is not a DM.

I have been pleading for us to sign a proper ball playing DM for years now. Winks can do it ok as can Skipp (but in a more combative way). But again I feel Skipp is better pressing higher up the pitch and his attacking abilities are underrated, same as peh.

This is how we dominated the game against Leicester, that's also how we smashed United last season.

We now have the right formation imo, with winks being the deep lying playmaker and peh and Skipp pressing high. The problem comes if any of the three are out.

We have no other central midfielders that can do the same jobs. GLC is too flakey, Tanguy is too Tanguy and Dele is not good enough on the ball.

People focusing on CBs or strikers (understandable) but we need a cm (or two). I would be going balls out for neves. Or anyone who is a playmaker in the middle of the park. This would be my priority.

Maybe with time GLC can influence games more, but for now we need someone else.

Here is HOJ using his brain never switching off, preventing Bergy from another yellow ?(y), in slo-mo

This is absolutely class from PEH ?
Means we kept the positive feeling from the win and means Bergy is available to terrorise Chelsea this afternoon.
We can upgrade on his quality on the pitch but regardless of that he should ? remain a very important part of our squad to go on and win something
