He was also what, 20 years old? In a team pushing for the Champions League?
Yeah true, but people are acting like Pep loved him when in reality he was a promising young player that he used sparingly and then loaned out.

He wouldn't loan out a genuinely top class player that he wanted to integrate long term - that's not Pep's style.

I trust Postecoglou and Munn to sort that out.

I suspect Ange will figure out very quickly who is committed to, and suited for, the new high intensity philosophy.

But, it's important to note - top teams sell and move talented players all the time. It keeps the money flowing, and the squad fresh.
I have a feeling PEH will be a favourite for Ange, some don't like him but i think in a team that Ange wants to create he needs a DM that can also play higher up the pitch. Many people forget we have seen years of very dull and boring pragmatic football and Ange is just not that kind of manager (wow it feels good saying that)

This is the macro point. It's not so much about fit and talent level. I am not going to debate anyone on PEH's merits. As I believe he is a very good all-round CM. Period. But, he is approaching 28. He has 2 years on his contract. He is at his ceiling now. This is as good as he will ever be. So, if we are able to sell him, in his prime for 30m. As opposed to waiting until next year, when he has 1 yr left. Or lose him for nothing. Then, that's kinda dumb. He isn't as good as Benta. Bissouma's ceiling is a lot higher. And can we get someone of his caliber, who is younger, at the same or less of the price he is sold for, but with higher potential? Yes. The whole thing is just plain common sense.

If Athletico or Bayern or anyone else offers 30M. It's a no-brainer. BUT NOT, because I de-value his talent. That's has nothing to do with it.
Nailed it. It’s all about managing your squad as efficiently as possible for the now and for the future.

As you say PEH is 28, 2 years left on his deal, decent player who can fetch interest and a half decent price and who isn’t really suited to the new managers plans, absolutely perfect example of a player we should be selling to manage our budget and wages now and moving forwards.

Not for me. Too slow and passive, and will slow down our fast paced progressive football. Not a fit for the system. Like others said he’s suited more to a team that sits back and hits on the counter because he’s good at breaking up play.

As I understand, Pep didnt want to loan him out or sell him. Hojbjerg chose to leave and to take the loan to kick start his first team career. I think I remember reading that Pep wanted him to stay as he wanted to integrate him slowly into the first team by the following year

when he plays for Denmark he is quite advanced and during the Euros (?) he was one of their outstanding players - I don't think he is a particularly good ball winner but in a midfield which has been hamstrung by the tactics which we have used he has done ok though in common with the rest of the side he had gone by the end of the season - he has done ok overall he has his limitations and wouldn't be the first out of the door but you could understand him moving on from both our and his point of view

Very similar players. One is worth 100m and the other people want gone for 15m 😂 😂

Alternatively, it shows the benefit of stats. Rice is the better player, but he is also smooth, elegant, easy on the eye - which makes him seem even better. Whereas PEH moves as though he has recently been hit by a bus.

There’s no statistic table on the planet that could ever make me believe Hojbjerg is on Rice’s level. They do similar jobs but at the highest level there are certain things that make a lot of difference. Rice has pace, agility, is very press resistant, can carry the ball at pace further than 5 yards without losing control of it and never gets absolutely breazed past far too easily like PEH does too often leaving our midfield wide open. These things make a huge huge difference at the top level and that’s why Rice is going to Arsenal who play a high tempo high class style of football and PEH is being disregarded by a coach who wants to implement a similar style. Nothing against PEH but it’s always been very very clear that he isn’t quite good enough. I wouldn’t be against keeping him around as a squad player because he is super reliable but if we could sell and get a more dynamic CM to play next to Bissouma for 40-50m I’d do it in a heartbeat
