I think this is it. Great pro and a good player but doesn’t massively suit our direction or style at the moment. Definitely an area where we can hopefully improve with no hard feelings in regards to PEH.He played well but I would say it was more the formation change that led to the improvement in our performance.
All the same issues still stand for me but it does highlight the need to for a top quality, press resistant DM to be added in the summer to help us play low block teams. Zubimendi seems to be on our radar.
Nah. I thought Bissouma was OK when we were ok first 25mins but once we dropped off he was awful.Maybe he helped change the game, but more a positional thing from Postecoglu rather than a quality difference. Just feel like Bisoumma’s getting the shitty end of the stick here. Time wise he was at least as good individually as Hobjerg and the dm position was more isolated in the first half.
The biggest difference was we got a quick second after the goal from nothing from VDV which killed any fight back from Forest but we were very sloppy for at least the last twenty minutes of that game imo.
It just depends on who we're playing. The Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City games I'd go with Bissouma, Hojbjerg has traditionally struggled with the press and intensity in those type of games but if we're up against a low block team I'd go with HojbjergNah. I thought Bissouma was OK when we were ok first 25mins but once we dropped off he was awful.
Hojbjerg was much better than him yesterday, mad minute aside, he deserves to start v Newcastle
Much better variety of passing in his locker than Biss, but not as good at carrying the ball, but still gives us more at the moment.
Even though Bissouma and Bentancur are more press-resistant, they are also prone to a couple misplaced passes each game. PEH offers something different and has been contributing well when coming on, with a decent range of passing and probably the best shooting ability of our any of CMs.I like him as a player and think he has a calming influence on the team
I think his passing and shooting are pretty decent but he has always a sloppiness element in every game he plays - I think when he is under pressure at all he gives the ball away far to easily
Last night we got
Away with it and it did not cost us
Watch the first twenty minutes again and come back to me and tell me he was awful. Watch his part in the first goal. Bisoumma wasn’t as sloppy in possession in the last part of the first half as PEH was on the ball in the last part of the second. Everyone forgets it m/doesn’t take it in because we were winning/going to win.I disagree. Bissouma was awful. Slow, hiding, out of position and lazy. I called him and his general play as an issue accompanied with Sarrs positioning well before half time. Hojbjerg deserves a lot of credit. Go and watch his contribution to those first 20 minutes again. He was key.
Also, why is all the credit on Ange and not the player who actually came on and did the job Bissouma couldn’t.
He wasn’t awful in the first 20 minutes. He was awful in the last. Which is why Forest got into and arguably had the better of the game by half time.Watch the first twenty minutes again and come back to me and tell me he was awful. Watch his part in the first goal. I will say he should of done better off the ball, but then when Hobjerg plays the DM position on his own he gets played around and ends up chasing shadows too.
Bentancur was more the key to me and when he partnered Bisoumma away at West Ham which is a harder game we looked more in control and dominated the game from that position. So Bisoumma can do it with the right shape/personal around him.
you give Hobjerg Bisoummas job today at Newcastle, with Sarr and Maddison and it’ll be carnage. That’s why it had more to do with Ange/shape
I agree but he still isn’t good enough. He made two massive errors yesterday still, he misplaced a lot of passing still. He’s fine as back up but he clearly wants to be more. We've looked much better with him in the team lately. Better passing than Bissouma and a far more calming presence.
The long diagonal out to Werner got us moving for the 3rd goal. Biss doesn't have that in the locker.
I'd sell Bissouma before PEH currently. PEH has shown consistency. We got about 7 good games out of Bissouma.I agree but he still isn’t good enough. He made two massive errors yesterday still, he misplaced a lot of passing still. He’s fine as back up but he clearly wants to be more.
We need a quality 6 who’s mobile enough to mob up as it’s such a key position
Here's the thing that I think changed the tempo for us after HT: PEH goes direct to Werner from the centre of the pitch. With Bissouma and Sarr, and Maddison dropping deep, it takes three or four 10 yard passes to get it to the player on the touchline, by which time they're tightly marked.Yes. He also changed the game. But this is the Hojbjerg thread. He came on, sat in the hole, played it simple. Made some key passes. Moved to make the angle and was basically faultless for the first 20 minutes which led to us winning the game.

Good simple observation which made a big diff. Here's the thing that I think changed the tempo for us after HT: PEH goes direct to Werner from the centre of the pitch. PEH just pings it out there, missing two or three players out. Werner was then receiving the ball with 10 yards to turn and face the full back up. Nothing hugely complicated about it - he's just not into all that tippy-tappy around the centre circle. He doesn't have the range of passing that Maddison or Bentancur has, but what he does have he does more quickly and more directly.
FWIW this is not the same Bissouma I watched at Brighton. He did this superbly. Was competent in tight spaces, recycling possession and keeping the pace of the play up.He wasn’t awful in the first 20 minutes. He was awful in the last. Which is why Forest got into and arguably had the better of the game by half time.
I did watch the match again when I got home. I watched for specifically that reason. I wanted to see the differences. Bissouma was not doing the job that is a minimum requirement of a player in his position. Fine when we’re moving the ball quick and on the front foot. Dreadful when we’re under pressure.
I know it’s not everything but Bisoumma ‘s underlying numbers for that position are good. Think there’s a bit of a narrative now that’s quite hard to shake off and I think the starting position for a lot of people is that he’s going to be poor. It’s starting to happen with Maddison as well and that’s quite hard to reverse.FWIW this is not the same Bissouma I watched at Brighton. He did this superbly. Just isn't happening in a Spurs shirt. Or at least it hasn't happened since the start of the season.
Very disappointing as I had high hopes.
Hojbjerg did make a big difference but he's still a squad player for me. Does an excellent job of shoring things up. Unfortunately, I think he wants to be playing 90 mins.
Did we change shape? Not arguing with you - but I thought Ange has made it clear on many occassions that we won't change the way we play. Or is it the case that when he makes those statements he means we will always be (under him) a possession based team looking to take the game to the opposition?I know it’s not everything but Bisoumma ‘s underlying numbers for that position are good. ive watched the majority of the game again and I’m even more firm on my initial feeling the Hobjerg individually wasn’t an improvement on Biss. We just moved to a flatter midfield two so it was a bit more solid and there was I suppose another option in that initial build up phase rather than a runner in Sarr.
biss and Bentancur put in a good display together just one game before so I’d say it definitely is about the shape. I’m not slagging PEH here just cutting Biss some slack
I thinks that's pretty much out of our hands now. He wants to go and his contract is what, in the last year? We'll regret letting him go if we do this summer.
