Is it really that bad record considering he was here half of summer transfer window and winter window? Two best signings in 5 years and both made by him. So surely it is not that bad.
It's isn't that bad, and his remit will have changed once Conte has come in. Jury is out but there looks to have been both hits and misses so far and most of the criticism he seems to be getting is based on things that happened at Juve where we don't know specifically what he was tasked to do.

this is a great summary. romero and rodrigo haven’t been incredible but, even at their average level, they’re noticeably multiple levels above what we have currently. this is both a good thing (in regards to both of them being good players of course) and a damning indictment on our recruitment.

what in the actual hell have we been doing for the last 4-5 years??? these types of players haven’t been hiding - they’ve been in plain sight for years! it’s not even a “we need to pay up” scenario. bentancur cost the same amount as hojbjerg, half of emerson, a third of lo celso and a quarter of ndombele!

i know scouting and player recruitment isn’t simple, but surely it isn’t as difficult as we make it look!

I think this is not mentioned enough. Lot of our first 11 players have middle/bottom table team technic. Seriously, Romero would be our best Eriksen replacement.

Exclusive Bentancur interview from Sky Sports.:

"The fact that [head coach] Antonio Conte was here was a massive factor in helping me make up my decision to join Tottenham, and a big motivation," says Bentancur, who knows all about the Italian from his time in charge at Inter Milan.

"I feel that he can dramatically improve me as a player and I'm looking forward to learning from him big time.

"His track record is amazing. He's won lots of titles and has been successful wherever he's gone."

Was great at putting out fires today all over the pitch.

Got caught a few times on the ball but really impressed with him so far.

Saw both the best and worst of him today. Some lovely defensive moments and some good stuff in possession, but if Winks had given the ball away on the edge of the box 3 or 4 times like he did there would've been calls for a lynching in the match thread.

Fingers crossed that was just him adjusting to the league and City's very heavy press but it is something Juve fans complained about so I think it's an area he needs to work on. Regardless he's still a big upgrade on Winks as he reads the game well defensively and gets stuck in, whereas Winks is like a ghost off the ball.

Very impressed with his tackling, he seems to be able to fly in from any angle and come away with the ball.

Decision making on the ball in his own third less impressive.

Think the pace of the game and how aggressively City press surprised him a few time but both him and Kulu have started well.

He did have a reputation at Juve for making dangerous sloppy mistakes in his own third, hopefully Conte can slap that out of him, but other than that he looks absolutely brilliant.

A bit to slow today in possesion and lost a couple of balls. This isn't Serie A but the PL. I'm sure he will adapt..

Overall though a very solid and good game. I think his height and heading is very underated.

His forward play is much better than I expected. He had the hockey assist for the winner.

A no brainer starter at this point.

I think we’re just used to the rubbish we’ve had in CM since Mousa went. Bentancur isn’t a stand out player in the league but he is levels above what we had in the squad. he’s not an amazing creative passer but better than the rest. A good buy and should be first choice.

He just needs to adopt to league. He cant know that JWP and Neves need close marking, or that you can always expect 1-2 city players right behind you.

He is here for 20 days.

He will become very good and we can be happy to have him.

Oh and he is one definitely our first team player already. Both him and Kulu. It would take 8-10 months under Poch. No wonder GLC and TN felt out of love before getting regulars.

I think we have a real player here. Yes he messed up on a few occasions today. But in reality the Premier league is a different intensity to Serie A and City are the top team here.

I have no doubt he will learn from his mistakes but he just had that edge to him for me. Certain players have it, its not an ability thing but a mentality thing. He always want the ball, he is always scanning before the ball arrives.

A lot of players will get rave reviews (correctly) after today. But I really like what I'm seeing from him.

Yes pace of the game and the way City are in your face so quickly took him by surprise on too many occasions. Hope he learns from it because he has a silky smooth look about him.

Love him already. He wanted too much time on the ball early in the 2nd but as the half went on he realised he had to be quicker with it and was. He will be a very good player
