In the past 2 games I noticed a fair few occasions when he was on the ball after we'd passed our way through the press at the back, only for him to ignore a forward runner in favour of a sideways pass. Not sure if this is due to lack of confidence in his pass/the runner (Royal) or due to instructions from Conte.

Did feel like we massively lacked incisive passing from deep in those matches. If Romero is targeted, our wing backs, other CBs and our CMs are all quite unreliable passers. On their day each of them can pull off some nice long balls, but none of them can do it with any kind of consistency. Against Brighton and Brentford there were SO many times we launched it long only for the pass to be massively over hit or off target, with even some short passes being horribly misplaced - it was genuinely Championship standard passing at times.

If we sign another CM, CB, WBs etc. we seriously need a couple more decent passers in the side as we can't rely on Romero and Kane to do everything

He's the one that brings calm in midfield. Hojbjerg is the one that harries the ball and tries to make things happen going forward but doesn't have the technical ability to create things. I think we need a partner for Bentancur who is more box to box like Hojbjerg but a technician. I would love to see a Modric alongside Bentancur. I like Hojbjerg a lot but he's a player who you need for a fight but there are still games where you need more guile than grit.

Please elaborate, as I don't think my post is wrong at all.

Bentacur hasn’t outperformed his partner in Højbjerg so far in our games, I’m sure if it was Skipp the same could be said.

This is the last 9 games based on Ratings from AllyG.

This isn’t fact, but I would have hoped he was a level above our current CM options, and so far I don’t think he is, Winks yes

In fact I think he’s overrated on here to a degree.

The good thing is he has time on his side, only being here a couple of months, but maybe Juve fans had a point.

Like I said, let’s see in a year.
I would suggest watching the game with your eyes. PEH has been hugely frustrating the last few games . He's a backup at best and I do mean best. Shame Skipp is injured as he'd already be on the bench for me.

I have and I wished Bentacur was much better than Højbjerg and Skipp, and so far he isn’t.

@WhiteDane is trolling and I love that for them :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Bentancur has played 13 total games for Tottenham (all competitions) in a new league, new team and has found a way to be one of the 1st names on the team sheet and frankly, our best CM in the team.

PEH has a whooping 96 appearance in all competitions for Tottenham ( not to mention the 134 appearance for Southampton in the same league) and should be a lynchpin in our team, setting the standard and being the ever reliant player, seeing as he KNOWS what to expect from the league.

So, I just want to know, why aren't some of us applying common sense when comparing the two players?

Great to have an grown up conversation with you fella!
I think the debate has been had many times before by myself and other posters. Football is all opinions but I really can't see watching games what you're trying to push.

I'm not trying to push anything?

I'm just saying watching the first 12 games he hasn't convinced me - yet. And by not doing that, I don't think he is much much better than what we currently have besides Winks.

That is backed up with MY EYES and ratings of the performances he has put in. He's clearly a more gifted footballer, but so far the performances seems up and down.

And then you reply with: "Lol. That's all"

(y)

Very mature.

If you disagree with me, which is fine btw, let's hear it..

Højbjerg is the problem in our midfield.
Run around pointing and shouting while leaving huge gaps behind him.

Bentancur has been a breath of fresh air and will get better the more he gets acclimatised to the league

He's said before, many times, that he doesn't see himself as a great player, but as a player that improves those around him. The issue with that is that he really suffers and stands out when he's playing with team mates who aren't useful (Winks), or can't be bothered. It's at that stage that he tries to do too much and loses his rhythm.

It's no mystery as to why he always looks like one of our best performers when the team is collectively doing well, and one of the problems when it isn't. He has that modric-esq ability to look like he's not really doing a great deal at times, but his performances are crippled when the players around him aren't trying for the ball or tracking their man.

I think Skipp, Hojbjerg, and Bentacur are all three different types of player that don't really compare well at all. It is clear that those spots are a problem in the team, though, as I'm not sure if he suits exactly what is required from that role - which is one that I can imagine our Scott Parker being amazing at. We'll probably see that more from Skipp, tbh.

For me, Bentacur's performances against Brighton and Brentford (and also arguably Utd away) where he was no better than Hojijberg were a reality check. I was finding myself carried away during the winning run thinking he's Carrick mark-two. I think we have to wait and see. He definitely offers more defensively, especially with his height, than Winks.

He has only been here 3 months..... how much time would you allow for him to adapt to a new league... he has come to the toughest league in the middle of the season.

I'd only start to make your type of assessment at the end of next season.

I'd say the 'problem' is that Hojbjerg and Bentancur are being stretched too thin against organised teams. I'd like to see Kulusevski dropping deeper and tucking in on the right more often to create more passing angles and more creativity in the middle of the pitch. As things stand he tends to hug the touchline, and if our CMs are trying to press there's very little cover if it's unsuccessful. I wouldn't be shocked if Conte switched to 433 v Leicester tbh.

Top class today. Carried our midfield through large portions of the game.

Seems as though he's not getting much credit, though. Maybe if his name was Bentøncjur...

I didnt really see much from him today, to be honest. He had his moments, but he also made a fair amount of careless passes as well. Doesnt drive forward enough. I nfact I think Hojbjerg did more than him in midfield today
