I honestly thing that is it for the season now our defence is soo shit and now with him the only payer capable of transitioning the ball from the defence to the attack we are fucked unless Conte changes the system which he wont (I hope he recovers well as he's such a good player) I think he was our most influential player (Kane has Richy as back up we have nothing of similar quality to Bents, maybe Bissouma but obv he's done for a while too)

I know this is just bad luck but I've run out of things to say about this club. If we're not shooting ourselves in the foot, we're having the worst luck in the world. And I don't even believe in luck as a concept - it's a word for people who believe in magic and ghosts. But this club really makes me question whether shit like curses and fate really do exist lol

Wtf is wrong with us.

All the best Rodders.

Looking for a bit of hope. Can anyone name me a player who's recovered from this type of injury and gone on to still perform at the highest level?

He defiantly won't be the same me thinks. It's a horrible injury for a footballer.

We must have built the original WHL over some gypsies camp. No other explanation for this curse.

Such bad luck for him personally :-(

For us though ... I was only saying last week (after the Citeh game) to colleagues that I couldn't believe we still don't have any real backup for him. We are one injury away from a rubbish midfield. And boom there we go. Sorry if I jinxed it

We've been here before (with injuries to Harry for example) and something has turned up. A player has really stepped up or we've found a new way to play.

But I just don't see it happening this time with AC's tactical inflexibility. I hope I'm wrong but we'll likely replace him with one of Sarr or Skipp and spend the next half a dozen games huffing and puffing and passing sideways against the worse clubs and shitting pants as soon as we get the ball against the bigger clubs

I think we have 2 other options now:

1. Move to 3 in then middle and put somebody like Harry (or possibly Kulusevski) as the ACM

2. This is going to be unpopular but.....if we insist on playing a 2 then we drop Holberg and try Sarr and Skipp together. I think they'd keep and carry the ball much better than either pared with Holberg

And one more thing....for those saying now we need another CM in the summer, the fact is we may need 2. One to replace Bentacur until he's fit and one as cover for that replacement. Horrific

Here’s an article to make people feel a little better…

https://www.squawka.com/en/famous-footballers-acl-injury-recoveries/?amp

My guesstimate figuring he’s in pro condition, got the best resources 2 months healing, 4 months conditioning and strengthening the knee, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back for the start of the season but probably another couple of months after that before he has the confidence and strength in the knee to get back to his old form.
Literally did a little google search of the same thing to keep my spirits up

I tend to agree, but would love him to prove us wrong. He has potentially 15 -20 games to really show us whether he is the real deal.

This is going to wreck our season, he's as important as Kane IMO.

Does anyone have a comparison of our win % when he is/isn't starting?
This season:

With Bentancur starting: 17 games

10-1-6 31 points; 32 goals for, 26 goals conceded

Without Bentancur starting: 6 games

2-2-2 8 points; 10 goals for, 9 goals conceded

1.8 PPG

1.3 PPG

Small samples but that's a stark difference. He's my favourite spurs player, from the long raking crossfield ball he made a few seconds into his debut appearance you could tell he would be transformative to our midfield. I can't see us making top 4 without him.

Yep. He's a good player but I don't think he's a "top 4" midfielder if that makes any sense

Making top-4 is going to be difficult - not just because Bentancur is out though.

But, for a glass half-full perspective, I think Sarr can fill his boots. Sarr will make more mistakes, but I think he has enough about him to make a lot of positive contributions also.

At least we did the proper thing in the summer and bought a very good back up in Bissouma.

*checks Iinjury list.. *

I get that some people 'create their own luck' or doom themselves with negative psychology but how you can outright believe luck doesn't exist? Like what about lottery winners? Or when that bird shat in Ashley Young's mouth. Was he just not trying hard enough to avoid the bird shit?

Within football I'd defo say that, while luck is exaggerated among fans, it's certainly possible that some clubs are overall luckier or unluckier than others. All it can take is a few freak events to shape a club's path over a number of years - injuries to key players at precisely the wrong times, things like lasagne-gate etc.
