Personally ive never understood what others saw in him. He was never that good on the ball, technically he is limited, he isnt a great defender and his reading of the game wasn't anything special. I just couldn't understand, and still don't, what he was expected to develop into as he never had any stand out abilities that set him apart as a youth player aside from being fast. I will say that his injuries must have really hampered his development and i do think he is better then his last showing. He also clearly put a lot of work in the gym because he certainly got stronger over the last year and the defensive side to his game has got better. But really, aside from being home grown and fast, i don't see him ever being good enough for us or any top 6 team unless he suddenly take a giant step in his development. Im going to be curious to see what happens next season because i don't see us selling a young HG player even tho he will very clearly be third choice.

On a side note, the thing that bugs me is that considering how much game time, when fit, gets how Spence has hardly featured as i don't believe he could be any worse yet has hardly got a sniff. But thats a well trodden path.
Completely agree. Everything he does is in slow motion it’s so weird. I think he can strike a ball pretty well and gets into some decent positions but I don’t expect much of him.

Saw that Udogie has 7 goals 5 assists this season and is the second highest goal contributing wing back across all top 5 leagues.

that’s the quality we need and also just find an Udogie mirror on the right

It's been so clear that the season in the championship 5 years ago wasn't the norm for this guy. People need to stop getting carried away by his odd decent performance every few months, or him staying fit for 4 straight games or him bulking up. If he can't nail down a regular first team place between now and summer then we need to let him go. He's had years.

Staggeringly underwhelming. He's not a disaster in the final third the way Royal is, but he offers absolutely nothing. I have no feelings of excitement or doom when he has the ball.

He would get nowhere near even the bench of any of our rivals. He is at best a mid to lower table type player and does not belong in a club that has aspirations of top 4 or winning anything.

Shame, as I was really excited when we signed him (as I was when we signed Ndombele that summer), which shows you how much I know.

Sessegnon excelled in finding space and being in the box at the right time. He never looked like a tricky winger and was limited in that regard.

I think the hope was that he could take that ability to find space and score and add some defensive ability.

If anything he's completely lost any offensive capability at the cost of becoming a decent defender.

I don't think Sessegnon is a bad player as such, but he isn't the answer for what we need. Can't say I'm too concerned as Udogie and Perisic is good enough for next year and I'm sure someone will give us a bit of dosh for him.

I never watched him in the Championship but this is how I remember him being described. Good at reading where space will be, timing his runs, and arriving in that space in the box to finish chances. Now, I think the role of a Conte wingback means he has to do more in build-up, driving the ball forward, and creating, and I kind of wonder whether he's got the requisite skills to really do that. He's still young and changing and has had flashes of good periods for us, but I do think he needs to push on if he wants to keep a place in the team.

I was at the Atletico game tonight and Reguilon in a limited appearance looked pretty good.
He's got a good cross on him. I wonder if he was loaned because he doesn't get in the right positions for Conte. He seems to have the attacking quality over Sess but I do think Sess has done better defensively. Its funny because I always felt Sess was perfect for wing back yet now he seems better suited as a full back much like Emerson. I feel Reguilon is better suited to wing back.

Sessegnon's issue is his mentality. He has a clear lack of confidence to do anything with any actual conviction. Everything is laced with fear, especially going forward. I don't know if he doesn't need the old Harry Redknapp arm around the shoulder treatment, but there is a player there with talent. Whether his mental game can improve is a matter only those who work with him can possibly know, but I don't think the problem is talent.

pretty sure that's since the beginning of last season.

in that same time period, perisic has 10 goals and 17 assists so i'd be surprised if udogie was 2nd overall.

regardless though, he looks a decent talent.

He needs to believe in himself

How much talent he has is hard to say till he gets his confidence up, shame as I think there is a player in there his just not performing. Maybe as a left back he would look better. As a wing back a lot of the time he offers very little.

Absolutely horror show 1st half. Wasted all of his chances to get good balls into the box. Saka has absolutely rinsed him - can’t live with his movement. Letting him drive into the box for the 1st goal.

never disliked a player playing for us as much as this guy, yes we have had worse players in terms of ability, but never have I seen a professional football so passive and docile, joke of a footballer

Needs to be shipped out this window.

I feel for him as he's just so fucking shit and he knows he is.

And feels sorry for himself.

Like a scene from Space Jam. Who stole the last of his remaining ability?

He looks clueless and so timid. Needs a good shake & a gentle reminder of how fortunate he is to be living our dream.

Just far too timid in everything he does. Doesn't strike me the type you'd want in the trenches with you. Think he needs to drop down to a midtable and lower team......some where there isn't as much focus and pressure and operate somewhat under the radar and try and rebuild. He looks completely lost at us.
