Ah isn't that nice? £26mil well spent.

It's obviously not justifying a price tag. But it's nice to have a player that is not a wanker that people can relate to. In a day where modern football is bemoaned daily, I like that there are a few players that I can relate to and support-not just because I want to do well for the team but because I like them.

You'd think that each time he misses a chance a puppy gets drowned, based on how some people froth at the mouth about him

I agree he seems like a nice bloke, but that isn't relevant to me in fact it could be why he hasn't succeeded here. It points to Souness' comments about Arsenal being a team of "son-in-laws".

Don't most of our players come across as quite likeable?

I like Soldado, seems like a decent bloke and cares about the team, but if that were the criteria for playing we'd have 11 SC'ers on the pitch.

His job is to score goals, not link up play or work hard. A team full of players like that is called Leicester or Burnley (with all due respect) and they end up getting relegated. The times where we have put crosses on a plate for Bobby he's missed anyway, so don't give me this "when has he had a run in the team?" crap when he quite clearly has at the start of his tottenham career and he did sod all then as well. A striker who can't score goals shouldn't get a run in the team. You wouldn't play a keeper who can't save the ball, would you?

Take personal feelings out of this, if you honestly believe Soldado will score more goals than any other player in that position, you are deluded.

I think this is only half true.
It is true that a striker, any striker, does need to score goals - and score goals from open play. It should be pointed out, however, the forwards that Fergie built his dominance at OT on were not noted for being particularly prolific. Neither Brian McClair nor Mark Hughes was ever going to break any goal scoring records. What they did do was bring others into play, allowing them to have goals from all over the pitch (in terms of the positions played of the scorers) given a net aggregate gain in goals scored rather than a net loss that might be expected just looking at the strikers scoring charts.

Similarly, Ricky Lambert was hardly prolific under Pochettino. What he did do, and do well, however, was link the play up, drop deep to collect the ball and put the runners from wide and deep through.

For me, the issue isn't that these aspects of forward play aren't irrelevant, and, within reason, can even be emphasised at the expense of a striker's scoring charts (n.b. within reason - not that the striker doesn't need to score at all). The issue for me is that Harry Kane is better than Soldado at these aspects of the game and is scoring goals. So Kane has to be first choice. If Soldado could keep on improving these aspects of his game and bang in a few more goals he would be fine as second choice to Kane, or, alternatively, playing in front of Kane.

And the problem is, it's not all just about personal feelings, I honestly feel that if he got a little bit better service and, maybe, got a run of games/wasn't dropped immediately after scoring from open play in the EPL, he might just score enough goals to justify competing with Kane/having Kane play behind him.

And then there is Ade...the wild-card :eek::eek::eek:

Using the current squad as an example, I'd say that Ade, BAE, Kaboul, Paulinho, Lennon and sometimes Rose as often left wanting in terms of fan affection.

His record in Spain would suggest that he scores more when playing with a strike partner.

That's a bit of a non-sequitur. Do you not think that the poor defending in Spain has something to do with that?

Wasn't that one of Sherwoods big complaints about our players ............'all too nice, they just wanted to be everyones friend'.

Just a bunch of labrador puppies really.

Ironic really, as reports suggested that they didn't really take to him

Aren't a lot of the Spanish defenders from around that time now in the PL?

I don't know but I don't think there can be that many to sort of assume that there has been an entire migration of Spanish defenders in the last 18 months.

I'm not sure if you are saying these players aren't liked by the fans, or they give the fans a reason not to like them? I'm just genuinely interested to know why such a big deal is made of Soldado (granted, this is his thread, but its also used elsewhere) being a nice guy, not a wanker, someone who can be related to etc. when to be honest most of our players when interviewed or when in the media come across as pretty 'nice' and level headed people yet they don't get the same level of support. To use a couple of the players you have mentioned - BAE always says good things about the club on social media and has interviewed well, and Rose always seems level-headed and a decent sort when he gets interviewed.

Wasn't that one of Sherwoods big complaints about our players ............'all too nice, they just wanted to be everyones friend'.

I was more talking about away from the pitch... As I used him as an example above, on the pitch Rose plays very seriously and has a bit of a niggle to his game, when he's interviewed though he seems very down to earth, level-headed, speaks well and a decent sort. I was just a bit surprised with the post, it was as if the rest of them come across as not caring/a bunch of ****s.

No, I know, but their defenders can't be that bad if they are being picked up as signings.

Also, to return to the Suarez point, he should surely be doing much better than he is, if the defending were that poor?
