Watching Stephen warnock hi-lighting Son’s performance on Saturday and my goodness he was good. Kane has got all the plaudits but Son had an equally good game.

Son has always been a heavily flawed footballer, his skill set being very situational. He is poor at linking up with others his touch is 50/50 when coming towards the ball and his awareness of players around him is blinkered. But that's also the case with Moura.
Bergwijn is better than both technically but doesn't have the dynamism of either. and seems to struggle if things don't go well for him early in a game (whether coming on or starting)

Son is good when you can get him high up isolated with a full back or when Kane has the ball in the hole and he sets off on a run.

I believe that is why we are no longer seeing Moura and Son in the team together as both are far too hit and miss. Ideally we'd have two Kane's; one to create and the other to finish, it must be frustrating for Kane when he can seemingly create things for others so easily yet we struggle to get him into decent positions to score.
Unfortunately we're lucky if we'll have one (Kane) next season.
We definitely need one or two alternatives in the WF areas, that can not only provide dribbles and shots but can also contribute to the football more than just a five yard pass to the first man then run away.

Well, we had this guy called Eriksen once...

Yes we did, but creativity shouldn't just come from one player, as that makes you so easy to stop.

We need to be better all over the pitch. better in possession, better at moving off the ball, looking beyond the first pass (something we are awful at) stronger on the ball, better awareness of what is ahead of us with our back to the goal.

I absolutely love the bones of Son but he is one of many contributing to our poor playing style.

I agree... superb at running in behind, works hard, good finisher. But overall footballing ability isn't great, and he misses too many sitters.

Love him to bits, but feel he's not always playing optimally.

It always bemuses me to see this thread bumped after a loss - the idea that Son, one of our two genuinely good and consistent footballers, is even in the top 50 problems we have is laughable.

Unfortunately he doesn't fit Contes system. Just bid farewell to the Italian as he won't change the system to accommodate our most commited star player. Playing Son in a narrow formation is a dumb idea that will look even worse whenever we play teams who play on the back foot.

I don't think this is true at all. If my memory serves me right, Son has scored 4/5 goals since Conte took over. He has also bagged around 3/4 assists. Whether we play narrow or wide, providing he has space, Son will always be a danger. He is perfect for the Eden Hazard role in a Conte team - the issue which has always been with him, is that he can be a purple patch player.

The little touch he takes on his thigh to control the ball and move himself away from the defenders was immense, the ball over the top from Kane was superb, but without that control he doesn’t score that goal. Absolutely brilliant player.

He can thank me. Prior to the game, I just spent money buying the 3rd kit with his name on it (his number is my favorite number). Sent a bit of good karma his way! :sneaky:

Scored his 118th goal for the club today in 311 games

12th on our all time list. 4 goals behind Robbie Keane now, having played 5 games more than RK

Great stuff
