The touches and decision making today were top. And those are the only parts of his game that aren’t elite at a consistent level. With them at the top level game in game out, he really is a complete forward.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but it's worth a watch and will put a smile on your face (if only for some of these counting as an assist).

I agree with this guy.

Though I'm sure I read on here that Son isn't suited to Contes system.

To be fair, he has had performances where you would like to see someone of his ability more involved in the play, but I thought he was superb against Leeds and he did seem to have more of a free role, I hope that's something that was intentional and worked on. He was so much tidier with the ball at his feet too and protected it so well, he didn't seem to lose possession much or at all and was able to utilise his pace more than he may have been able to in other matches.

There were a few squad-wide improvements that were hopefully an indication of progression and not due to the team we were playing.

Son did not have a free role though. He played as a LWF and Kulusevski played on the right. When we defended he tucked in to help out Sessegnon at LB. As Leeds went one-on-one all over the pitch when we had the ball Son took his marker on a bit of a jaunt at times to create space, particularly Sessegnon, but it was not a free role.

Can you explain why did Levy not drive Kane there himself last summer? One thing Levy does not do is willingly sell our best players to domestic rivals.
I would imagine that Man City did not offer what Levy thought Kane was worth to us at that particular time. He will always make a business decision over football, every time
After our incredibly poor leadership around the cup final & in the summer re Nunos appointment I’d imagine selling Kane at that point would have increased his importance and value to us even more!

And what do you mean by not willingly selling our best players to domestic rivals?

Sheringham
Carrick
Berbatov
Walker

So basically what I’m saying is Kane wasn’t sold because City didn’t offer us something around 200m because Walker wouldn’t have gone to Man City for 20m etc etc etc

Sheringham was sold by Sugar five years before enic bought the club. Two of those examples are over a decade ago, and by all accounts Poch wanted Walker gone as his heart wasn’t in staying at the club.

My bad re Teddy, wow, was it that long ago!!

The Walker example is exactly the same as Kane. The one big difference was the amount of money offered not meeting Levys valuation

He doesn't and never will. Do any mean he'll always have bad games since we'll always have games where the opposition leave space in behind and he's lethal in transition. However when playing against pragmatic sides he's going to struggle.

As said when Sonny has room in behind and when he’s fit there aren’t many better in world football

If you don’t give him space to run in behind and don’t allow him to open his legs up he can be very ineffective

If you can slow him down, isolate him 1 on 1 with a tough left or right back who give him a hard time early he can really struggle for the whole game

Bar only a handful of forwards you can roll out an arguement of "if you do x y z against him he will struggle".

For a guy who has been consistently productive (over seasons, sure he goes through a quiet run of games but again, rarely do forwards not do so over the course of a season) and has actually shown some proper loyalty to the club at a pretty unstable time, im with the poster earlier who finds the reading and bumping of this thread leaning more to the negative than the positive pretty confusing.

No way do I see a more negative thread than positive re Sonny ?‍♂️

Clearly he’s been a huge plus and success since he’s been at the club
