Read some interesting points on son and how teams are dealing with our forwards. They are allowing passing lanes into son who is having to drop deeper to receive the ball as they know he has a poor touch under pressure with his back to goal and will constantly give the ball away.
He is not playing well as teams are keeping him deep by cutting the lanes of passing into Kulu and Kane so they can receive the ball and feed Son.
We need to find a way to get son into his strengths and I personally also feel that Emerson’s lack of real pace and attacking threat does not help as teams can double up on Kulu and kane leaving Emerson in space.

I'm reasonably happy re the Son situation atm . The reason for this is that for the last few seasons Sonny would never be substituted.

It seemed to particularly enrage me that however bad, he stayed on. To see Son being subbed when not contributing is a step forward . Yes we've got Rich now but still, Sonny's been untouchable even when out of form... happy to see this change.

If the oppo set out to stifle him they often succeed, is also a factor.

Anyway he'll be back on form soon I'm sure.

Perhaps Son could just up his work effort. I can take him not playing well, cannot defend his lack of effort in the 1st half.

There was one moment when bentancur was pressing the keeper. He had one pass on, to the left back. Son stood and watched the pass. He could have stopped the option, had he been alive to the possibility.

Slow start to the season a dip in form is possible for any player. He has set a high standard for himself and will get back to it eventually

Agreed. Plus he can be rested too which is key. I feel that’s why it’s so key we have a good rotation option for Kulu. Zaha is playing well through the middle too currently so if we have

Yeah agreed, he really doesn’t seem to be working very hard currently. It’s like he’s saving his energy for attacking

I’m wondering if Harry has passed the ‘doesn’t score in August’ baton to Sonny!

‘Here, you have it!’ ?

I genuinely think he’s got too many cogs going on in his head.
He seems to be over-thinking situations, rather than just ‘being in flow’ and doing what he is capable of doing.
He hasn’t lost any talent.
But…there are some new challenges. New personnel, new set piece instructions, new competition for places.
He’s a guy with a big heart…and probably feels shifts and changes more than other players.

He just needs one good game to shift his mindset back into a confident state, whereby he feels in control again.
The human mind is a complex creature.

As bad as his form is he still had decent chances to score in our last two games! He still finds himself in the positions, his form will return soon.

I have long said he simply doesn't fit the system and he simply doesn't. If the game gets congested he's in trouble because technically and physically he just isn't all that great.

Trolling surely but I’ll bite.

He may not be a mercurial, KDB/David Silva esque playmaker, but his off the ball movement and finishing is elite, as is his speed with and without the ball. He also plays in an attack with one of the most prolific strikers ever seen in this country, so is hardly hogging the chances in a dysfunctional attack. He consistently outperforms his expected goals year after year, and is probably the best finisher in the league in that respect.

The only question mark I have over him, and Kane to be fair, is they need to do it on the big stage, in the finals. They have been found wanted several times now. Hopefully they seize the opportunity next time we get there.

But as far as racing to drop him for a spell of games, or being particularly concerned after 3 matches without a goal. Not a chance. He is the reigning PL top scorer, maybe a rest for a game here and there, but we do not need him out the team. The man is world class and it won’t be long before he starts looking back to his lethal self.

Imagine what he’d score if he did!!! Garth Crooks levels of analysis.

Oh, he's a brilliant player, no question about it, His inconsistencies though are a product of the system and level of the side as a whole. In the right system he'd be much better because when the game gets condensed he'd be able to pull out into wide areas and have 1 v 1's. In this team, that area of the pitch is occupied by a wingback. He's still effective though because anytime the game is in a transition situation he's the most dangerous player on the pitch.
