I am more than happy to give Bergwijn the benefit of another season. I think he was a massive victim of Mourinho’s crap tactics. The goal he scored at the end of the season showed what he can bring to the team and he is both very good technically and has a great team ethos. I am convinced he has a higher ceiling than Moura or Lamela.
Unless they are clearly below level or having trouble settling then I generally think players should get 3 seasons to get up to level.

I think there’s a player in him and one who can score goals. This is a big season for him.

I thought this goal under Mason showed a lot more of what he's about - few of our other players could have muscled through and smashed it into top bins like this

Really hope that he gets unleashed this season and can get a bit of confidence to impose himself on the ball, like in that clip. There's clearly a player in there which he showed a bit in the early days. A player who's since spent 18 months getting minutes purely for his ability to keep running about a lot for a long time. Cheers Jose! (y)

Not after just 1.5 seasons, the first half in 2020 being a time he showed great ability and promise. If this season is similar to the last, then yes, be more open to letting him go, but not now. Too soon to pass a complete judgement. I still believe in him.

Really hope we don't sell Bergwijn. I still have high expectations for him.
But if we talk to Ajax, maybe Don Fabio could ask about Gravenberch? ;) as far as I know he wanted to bring him to Juventus in the past.

Can they take Moura instead? Actually probably wont be very popular there

Watching the Colchester game on Wednesday Bergwijn was on the left wing hugging line as the breakout ball or off the shoulder as the runner as in Son's goal and the penalty shout, he was also the player that stayed in the centre circle when we were defending corners, again as the out ball to turn defence into attack. I know it was only a preseason friendly but he looked comfortable with so it seems to me Nuno has that role in mind for him and I would be surprised to see him sold.

Fucking hell, Sausage! You really take some time and make your OWN memes! Just wow. Wanted to say that I'm grateful. It's kinda cute and I appreciate the dedication (y)

I had no familiarity how to use GIMP a fair while back (having been a PSP/Photoshop user), and making these helps me hone the skills a little.
(It's also about lightening the mood at times)

I wonder if we might look to sell Bergwijn to Ajax and then sign Damsgaard as his replacement?

I don’t like the idea of him going, but if we’re going to directly replace him with someone this is who we should go for absolutely.

Bergwijn is coming up to 24 and looks to be regressing rather than progressing. Damsgaard on the other hand is 21 and looks good enough to come in and already be a key player for us and potentially our best creator. Would be the only reason to sell Stevie this summer imo

Wouldn't give selling him a second thought, have seen nothing in him at all

I did in 2019/20, and the last few under Mason, but under Jose in 20/21 and this summer so far he's looked a bit like Marcus Edwards or a similar academy product - obvious some talent in there, but nothing particularly deserving of a starting berth.

I think he could be really good, but there's a risk he's also a more expensive N'jie or N'koudou type player that runs about with some trickery but overall doesn't impact games.

Depends with how we use the money. If it means we can somehow get Damsgaard then it would be a fantastic bit of business.
