Son had 13 starts and 15 sub appearances
Bergwijn's had 14 starts and 9 sub appearances
Again, my point is not let's get rid - it is either loan or coach and look for someone who can contribute more / more consistently in order to improve the team becuase all the time we are waiting for players to learn / improve we are undermining the team and dropping points. Is he currently performing to a standard you are happy with? If he does not get better with age / coaching would you be happy to see him in our starting 11 for the next 5 years? Hugo, Toby, Reggie, PEH, Sissoko, Son and Kane - more often than not you get at least a 7 out of 10 performance from them, I want to see players in other positions who give you that level of performance consistantly.
Again we cannot afford a ready made replacement with those attributes, and by the time we managed to sell lamela or Lucas to raise the money for this replacement bergwjn should be much improved player with continued game time.

Some foreign players need a year to adjust the premier League so he should be given the time like son and ndombele ie
I think there’s a confusion in the air. I’m not claiming to know what Bergwijn will be in 5 years, if anything if he’s still with us then he’ll be a much better player than he is now.

But on the here and now, I’m not happy with him, his defensive work is being massively overstated because his attacking output is so, so poor. That can’t be proved wrong, because it’s correct, even if he wins the balon d’or in 6 years, it doesn’t change his output over the last 5 games.

However, I guess I’d agree with you that anyone saying he’s a rubbish player and won’t amount to anything is playing a dangerous game. You never know in football. Who’d have thought Kevin Prince Boateng would have played for Barcelona?

Once Paulinho had signed, nothing was off the table.

Attention seeking, childish, reactionary behaviour.
Apparently, he's limited the comments on his Insta account. What a lovely bunch we are! :banghead:

Brought about, no doubt, by the type of people who judge others based on individual incidents rather than their character as a whole.

EDIT: Gets even better: there are rumours that there have been death threats.

Just heard about the Bergwijn slating. Should be ashamed. Thought he worked his arse off. Give the lad a break. Really feel for him.

Absolutely. I just hope he realises that the morons trolling him on the socials are not a true reflection of the real fans (don’t get me wrong, reading this very thread today it’s apparent we have a few village idiots of our own).

Young lad, new parent, still adjusting to life in a new country (most of which has taken place in some form of lockdown), give him a break and get behind him.

Can only echo that. It's tough when you're missing chances, especially ones that could have been match-winners but he's absolutely earning his place so far this season. His competition are pretty much known quantities. Lamela and Lucas are not going to turn into 15 goal a season players. He might.

Unfortunately, if you are a public figure you have to expect this sort of thing. Doesnt make it right, but if you are struggling with confidence the last thing you should be doing is reading your media pages, where anyone can post anything. A shame no spurs fans called them out.

Maybe some fans here should self reflect on the personal jibes. Criticise a performance, that's sport, but the personal digs for Internet likes is poor business and is hardly going to help your team player perform better, is it.

He'll come good. Sadly patience is lost on so many. His effort levels should be applauded.

Those so called Spurs fans should be utterly ashamed of themselves to spout such disgusting and completely unacceptable rubbish.
It's really going to help his confidence slagging him off on social media. The death threats are sick and should ensure those people are banned.

Bergwijn is having to change his game and focus more on defending, just to stay in the first eleven. He is doing that well, in response to Mourinho's tactical instructions, but his attacking play is suffering and the fact we have so little of the ball, can make it harder for him and other attacking players, with a lot of their energy focused on tracking back.

He is doing a job for the team and that's why Mourinho's is playing him ahead of Moura and Bale , even if it limits his chances of scoring and making assists.

At the time they weren’t wrong. Son struggled in his early days. You can’t say anyone that criticises a player for something they do in the present is wrong when 5 years later that player matures into a much different player.
Well isn't that what our club is all about! Buy young players with potential and develop them into players like Bale and son, eriksen and modric. We don't go out and buy a Ronaldo, messi, neymar or Mbappé so people need to be patient with our young players like bergwjn and give them time to develop and stop acting like this is something they've never seen before.

I'd argue that if you're struggling with confidence some comments on the players media pages from fans will have the desired effect and perk them up and give them a boost. We live in the world of social media these days and likes, retweets and comments really do have an effect on your mood, it's just how it is.

I suppose it depends on your mindset. What motivates some may have the reverse effect on others. But yes, it is the way of the world and if players have social.media, then they need to accept the rough with the smooth. Or, avoid it.

So you don't think his output has anything to do with mourinho's tactics. No player apart from son and kane has scored more than 1 goal this season and if you look at the fullbacks they don't have the license to get forward like they did up until the West ham game. The tactics are clearly designed to get the best out of son and Kane.

What is his output?

I don't think his miss against Chelsea, and his two misses against Liverpool (first one very tough, second very poor finish) have anything to do with Mourinho's tactics, no.

I couldn't agree more with this. I was on a podcast on YT once during a small 10 min segment, I thought it would be pretty fun but I realised after that if you're watched/listened to by millions then some people are going to have a problem with you and post some weird shit. Someone like Stevie is in the spotlight every week so he really should stay away from Socials, he earns enough to have someone control his accounts for him.

So he's had 3 chances to score 1 of which was a good chance and he hit the inside of the post. Kanes miss was far worse and kane also had another opportunity to score when he slipped over and Bale missed a sitter against West ham. He's getting into the positions to score and the goals will come.

So yes, 3 chances and failed to hit the target with any of them, all from inside the area. You Rottweiler's don't understand the irrelevance of comparing it to Kane's miss and as for bringing Bale against West Ham into it...

I think where we can agree is that we both hope he scores a hattrick against Leicester and will be willing him on all the way.

Where we will disagree, is that my response will be:

"Finally, some output after a disappointing run of misses, we needed it."

Yours will be:

"FUCK OFF ALL YOU ****S THAT DIDN'T RATE HIM YOU'VE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT."

We both want a win against Leicester, so it's good to agree on something.
