He'll be shipped back and this exact same last-minute scenario will repeat itself next year with whichever club is stupid enough to take a punt on him.

I wonder how much of his wages they're paying. I bet it's a pittance.

‘Moist’ loan stipulates somewhere between 50-75% coverage of salary and an option to buy. Anything more in terms of coverage of salary starts to get to be a ‘dripping’ loan. Partial coverage and obligation = ‘wet.’ Full coverage and obligation = you got yourself a ‘sopping’ loan. Please save this for future use.
I fear that a loan with only an option for Tanguy is moist in the same sense that a dry riverbed that last saw rain in prehistory, who's dusty soil retains the memory of hydration to the same extent as a homeopathic solution remembers what was once dissolved into it...is "moist".

That’s genuinely incredible then if true. With Sanchez transfer fee, wages, ndombele wages saved too that’s 30m euros saved/gained

I really thought in the early pre-season training video that he was going to knuckle down. Street footballer who just doesn't have the motivation. Poor scouting, but hopefully another season where he may find his mojo and we can get them to buy him.....

Can I just point out that his failure is not indicative of bad scouting. All transfers are a risk. He is just one that has totally failed

I am not so sure.

Probably the most important aspect of actual scouting is determining a players intangible attributes - things like knowing if he will work hard, or integrate into a squad are what you expect from scouts - but won't show up in YouTube clips. Scouting has to look deeper than just on the pitch performances.

How in fucks name is scouting meant to understand the intangible like how he trains at another club.

it about understanding a skill set and how that can be utilised in your clubs environment. It’s not a fucking FBI profile is it?

Probably true. And also, there's no point beating ourselves up about it because the scouting structure who ran the rule over him have all gone, including the manager.

Lets just hope that this deal goes through and that they buy him afterwards.
We just need to get rid of this guy and forget about him. And remind ourselves that the other big clubs also make bad signings like this.

Respectfully, this is well off the mark.

Scouting in most professional sports also evaluates character traits. It is essential if paying a large contract. There are many pros in the NFL and NBA and NHL and that have either been drafted after players they were technically better than or later in their career been unable to secure monster contracts based on attitude issues. This is especially important in team sports. Football is no different. There were red flags about this guy’s character before we signed him. They were ignored because Poch felt he could get the guy focused and committed. He was wrong.

It would be fiscally negligent not to consider personality / behavioral traits before offering someone 10m a year salary.

I think that scouting has to identify the characteristics of the player though. Is he a good fit for the club, mentality etc.

I agree that transfers are a risk but to pay the money we did for a relative unknown, you would think that there would be some kind of due-diligence performed at a character level.

Totally agree, I’m a broken record when it comes to recruiting in any walk of life, character comes first. Any scouting system or process that does not assess and consider those character traits is as you say negligent.
