I guess he expects pay parity with Lloris & Kane. I am very sure we will offer a suitable deal. Am not really concerned for timebeing.

Re the release clause, if we can work it out In a way that;
A) He can't use it for 2 or 3 years and
B) It's a shit ton of money

I wouldn't be adverse. We may find he wants out ASAP if we don't let him have It, but that he stays for years with it because we respected his wishes.

Players won't sign new contracts if they think they want out but will be priced out of a move.

This is being spun up a bit in the media with claims that Toby is "in the dark" over a new contract. I don't believe that's even close to being true.

Toby will know how much we value him and I'm sure we've told him that a contract offer will be coming in the off-season so there's no reason for anyone to panic. That's what I take from his quote anyway.

I thought we offered him parity...he just wants that release clause placed in his contract?

Alderweireld has played down suggestions that he could look to leave Mauricio Pochettino's side this summer, but has conceded that there are discussions that need to take place.

For the right money, Levy should agree to the clause kicking in after two more seasons.

Needless to say the clause cannot include the option to leave for another Prem club, otherwise no deal. If it is money he wants then he could follow Witsel to China.
