Really hope the club and his agents can still work something out. Not just because I think he's a brilliant player on his own and a good person, but because he brings out the best in Vertonghen and the rest of the team.

I feel this is more of a case of his agents being dickheads, then Toby and i hope that Toby wants to be apart of this team and tells his management team to cut the shit out.

While i like the way you think, Toby knows he is being underpaid.

No offence in that.

However the key is how much he actually wants.

Unfortunately we can not pay what he will get elsewhere

As much as it kills me to say, he is as good as gone imho, and i am one of the the most optimistic spurs fan you will meet.

So hope i am wrong.

How would we know (and why would it matter) if hes a "good person?" This has been dragging on for long enough now such that i think thats a hard assertion to justify.

Obviously I cant definately say one way or another if Toby is a good person or not, and social media is horrible tool to judge a person's character. But it's all we got in this case, i've never got the feeling from his posts, or anything any journo has said about him, that he is some mercenary type in it just for the money. I think it matters because his prescene in the squad is good for the attitude of everyone and specifically the other Belgium boys. Vertonghen's and Dembele's performance levels massively increased the moment he joined the club and I dont think that was just a coincedence.

I think people need to seperate their emotions from business and just hope that a fair deal can eventually be worked out.

Obviously the ideal situation here is for Toby to sign a new contract with us.

But, if he is leaving, we should be all over Stefan de Vrij - will be a free agent in the summer after failing to agree a new contract with Lazio.

He's going to be an amazing signing for somebody.

I just have a feeling Liverpool will be in for him (de Vrij)... Arsenal should be but Wenger doesn’t like addressing the problem areas of his team and thinks the answer is another attacker.

We won't sell to Liverpool unless they meet his clause (apparently 25mio at the moment).

I honestly believe if Toby wanted out, Daniel would sell him to a non english club for 15-20mio over an english club for 25mio.

Sorry, I was talking about de Vrij. I can see Liverpool being in for him.

Some of these free transfer deals end up costing more with agent fees, salary demands and bonuses.

Need to get in De Ligt sharpish. Also like the idea of Lascelles, Toon's best player imo by a country mile. If Toby wants to go then in the end he will, whether by running his contract down or stamping his feet and upsetting Poch. Sanchez looks hugely promising, but if Alders goes, Dier or CCV being part of a back 3 or 4 doesn't fill me with confidence.
Lascelles looks quality from what I’ve seen of him.

This season though, his absence from the team has forced Verts to step up to yet another level in becoming one of the best CBs around.

Imo, he has surpassed Toby. His recent performances have been unreal!!

That said, they do complement each other very well and the addition of Sanchez seems to have further galvanized that...

Be a real shame if he went. I was looking forward to seeing Sanchez centre, flanked by Vert's and Toby and WBs bombing up and down once more.

If I was Poch I would say to him, if you want to play v Juventus sign here...if not you're playing Rochdale again.

I don't think we will see the 3-man back line very often - if at all - this season.

Between Eriksen, Dele, Son, Lucas, Lamela - it does not make sense to start only 2 and have three of them on the bench. Maybe, you could move Dele or Eriksen back to the CM2 - but I don't see Poch doing that, and certainly not for any big matches - and they are all big matches at this stage...

Maybe next season, we can prepare for a 3-3-3-1 line-up, but I don't think we have the training time to really make that kind of shift this season.

Yes, you're most probably right regarding 3 man backline and WBs.

Still think it will serve us well when wanting to shut up shop and maybe take advantage with a quick counter.
