If this was a player in any other position, I'd say it's probably true. But the position we're most covered in, is CB. Even if we move Kaboul and Vlad on, we'd still have 5 CB's, which is too many to keep happy.
We've got a lot of CB's
I think if we played all of them we'd still be shit in defence though.
Realistically, the only one I trust is Vertonghen and he's disinterested most of the time. Have hopes for Dier but he's young and has a lot to learn.
Know nothing about Wimmer.
Faz, Kabs and Vlad just aren't good enough.

Quantity not quality for sure.

Not happening apparently. JJ confirmed.

Did he?

I thought he said it wasn't looking likely at the moment and its complicated...but he didn't rule it out?

And the complicated bit might be working out a fee that sees AM receive enough to offset what they'd give Southampton on the first refusal clause?

He'll go to Southampton IMO

why would it be too complicated for us but not southampton? i don't get why this one wouldn't be done. seems like the perfect addition to the starting xi.

The complication is probably that we wont pay what they want or anywhere near it, but southampton will which sounds plausible.

No the complication is Southampton can buy him for £7m in the loan contract but Atletico can buy out the contract for £1.5m but will probably want us to pay the £1.5m and a premium on the £7m to make it worth the hassle to them

Fair enough that clears it up but obviously the sticking point is dollar as we would expect though.

honestly i dont see the fuss over him, toby is an averge defender who is going to stunt the growth of three lads we already have dier, veljkovic and ccv, all who imo have a higher ceiling. if this signing happened two years ago then i would have understood it

Again, seeing slightly more links surface again, and whilst I feel he may theoretically be a better option in tandem with Vertonghen than Fazio, given their previous club and international experience together, but without us selling a CB I don't see the point in signing them unless Fazio is leaving.
Odd to sell him after only one year, unless the club truly feel it's the best move.
Wimmer is new, and I think Dier was good last year and will only get better as he gets more experience.
Personally I'd rather see the 5th CB be one of our youngsters. Carter-Vickers is highly rated, and Velkjovic was a key part of the U20 World Cup winning Serbia side last month.

y do people want him? i'm just curious
hes a prem established CB with big tourny ( CL, euro) experience whose countryman will be playing along side him. Less of a gamble than promoting youth through,

and, most importantly, it fucks over southampton and reminds them of their place in this league

his experience in his national team is at rb thou, he has had one season in the prem on a very organized southampton something spurs lack and if he is so good y is a 19/20 year old kicking him out of altetico.

Only two reasons I can see us going for Toby....we are planning for some cb injuries or poch plans on playing a completely different squad in Europa/some cups...other than that I have no idea why we would have that many cbs

Is it wrong, that's despite knowing it won't happen, I still really want Chiriches to come good? In the same way everyone wanted Soldado to come good?
Can I rate my own post optimistic?
