Can anyone going on about Carter-Vickers playing in the first team just fuck off :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

The kid is very talented but a baby by professional footballer standards and even more so by defender standards. If we were a mid table league 1 team then maybe.

He has a long way to go to learn the trade yet, and has time very much on his side. If we put him in against City, Aguero gave him an absolute torrid time then he'd get caned and so would Poch. Just chill, there's loads of time yet. There's even still loads of time for Dier/Wimmer, the season is long and they will all get enough chances.

As for Toby, very good signing and as JJ said the other day, his signing will be good for the TEAM. he knows some of the other guys and will hit the ground running with Jan.

Absolutely spot on mate.

Some on here massively underrate the mental side of things, and how being ready mentally to perform at this level is a judgement call only the coaching staff can make - the ones who are assessing these guys on a regular basis. Only they can make these calls.

Its such a simplistic view, to say that development is being blocked with the kids because we're making signings that will most likely improve us - a high caliber defender with experience. Ask any defender and they'll tell you that experience is crucial and its obviously built up gradually over time.

To expect too many youngsters all in the team at once is incredibly naive. We need a healthy balance, and the blend of experience with the youth we feel is ready has to be right. The younger ones have to build at the right rate - not just slung in and expected to play 40-50 games in a team where the pressure and expectations are massive.

As I've said before, I have minor concerns about Dier after this transfer, but anyone complaining about the effect it will have on CCV is mad. I can't really understand the stuff about Veljkovic either- as he very well may be a back-up CDM for us this season.

It's just that some people like to get in nice and early with the negative bullshit, so that 6 months down the line when a player has had a ropey month they can quote their own post and say "Look how clever I am, I was right all along". I also think it's a little bit of an attention thing.
It's fucking sad and lame that's what it is. Also shows no understanding of what makes a good team dynamic and what a good and suitable player is. I'd be shocked if he's not a success for us.

walker, vertonghen, mason, bentaleb, townsend, eriksen, chadli and kane also looked out of their depth at old trafford, let's replace them all with southampton's finest too? he didn't look out of his depth at home to arsenal, or does that not count as a big game?
Not going to argue with that as I agree a lot of our team were indeed off the boil that day but putting it simply I don't think in the very big games Dier is quite ready yet and still needs to be bedded in,people forget he grew up in Portugal not england so as he's said before he needs to adapt to a new league, country etc.

Why do people only think there are 30 games in a season? Dier will get plenty of playing time next season, and will turn in to a phenomenal prospect I'm certain. Chill the fuck out!
They forget how injury prone we are...

Came on here for jubilation and hilarious saints fans, but wow did it get negative on here quick.

I was take it or leave it on this one because I rate dier also, but now its done I'm very optimistic about this signing. It's thoroughly unspursy and sensible. Obvious even. Had a man utd fan text me earlier to say he would have liked him.

This guy seems solid, strong, hard working and good on the ball. Makes few mistakes and is prem proven and rated highly by saints fans. Plus he might give Jan a kick up the arse. Who's saying we won't bring in a DM to help shield him his summer also?

Dier will get Europa games, which should be interesting this season as I see Poch rotating more with more squad players he trusts. This will be two fold imo as not only should the reserves perform better in EL (first teamers dial it in mostly) but also hopefully we have fewer hangovers. Fazio will be the guy struggling for game time if anyone.

'Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dier, Wimmer' sounds a hell of a lot better than 'Vertonghen, Fazio, Dier, Chiriches and Kaboul'.

I would like to see Veljkovic kept rather than loaned as a 5th choice CB and 5th choice CM (behind Bentaleb, Mason, Alli and someone new) with all three of Kaboul, Chiriches and Fazio sold as the first is past it, the second is wrong for this league and the third just lacks the athleticism for the way we want to play.

I hope our midfield is given the same treatment. The removal of Paulinho and Capoue is encouraging, hopefully Stambouli's departure (for his sake too) is not too far off either. If we've signed a leader in Alderweireld for defence, I hope we sign a leader for midfield too (and Dembele can become a permanent option for the AM positions where he is better suited). Schneiderlin would seem to fit the bill with his proven ability to play in Pochettino's system, his premiership experience and his actual ability, but I can't see Southampton dealing with us any time soon. Along with competition for Kane, I see this is our most vital signing of the summer now. I'm actually quite content with Chadli, Pritchard, Eriksen, Dembele, Lamela and Townsend as the AM options. If all that remains now is a new CM, a new forward and shipping out the rest of the deadwood (Lennon, Stambouli, Kaboul, Fazio, Chiriches, either Soldado or Adebayor) I'll be very content.

Your never normally positive about anything.

Not making unforced or forced errors is big plus because we have always been prone to our defenders having a gaff. Looks like he is one out of the black box.
The last time I felt positive we broke our transfer record 3 times.

Exactly, this is why Suarez would be a shrewd buy for us as well. I think we're lacking a bit of that in CM particularly if Stambouli eventually departs.

Not really it wasn't clear. Someone asked is it JM or MS and he just sent thumbs up. Check the ITK, but he didn't seem to rule it out.
It was JM, Suarez or 'other', and his thumbs up suggested it was someone else, so not Suarez.
