If Toby hasn't got offers towards the end of the window you can see Toby outside Poch's bedroom window with a acoustic guitar...

Whatever I said, whatever I did
I didn't mean it
I just want you back for good
(Want you back, want you back, want you back for good)
Whenever I'm wrong
Just tell me the song and I'll sing it
You'll be right and understood
(Want you back, want you back, want you back for good)
I want you back for good

Is Martial for sale though? Regardless of whether we want the player or not, if United don't want to sell him to us that doesn't mean we should react differently regarding getting the best possible price in selling Toby if indeed spurs management have decided Toby is no longer in our plans. One thing we can be sure of is that we have the best possible negotiator in Levy to get the best deal in this situation.
ITK have stated Martial is for sale.
Mourhino wants him gone.
ITK have stated he wants us and we want him.
If we said your not having Toby (even though hes for sale)but we'll pay the asking price for Martial UTD wouldn't sell.
Why are we bending over to help them?
Toby is a world class defender and there desperate to get him.
It's a two way street and should be our stance.

World class defender who didn't play last season and we coped very well. If taking around 70 million pounds is bending over to help them then I think you have lost touch with reality.

You're really struggling with this.
Being open to selling a player (like they are with Martial) and actively selling a player (like we are with Toby) are very different things.
They can afford to let him sit on the bench for the rest of his contract....it will have no effect on their transfer business.
We just cant.

the thing is I'm not bothered as it means that Sonny can be kept happy, if Martial signs, 1 has to spend time on the bench, as they both operate better off the left. if you start rotating them regular, both could end up getting the hump and having an unhappy dressing room. hopefully we can find someone in their quality that can be at their best on the right
Let's not buy players in case it upsets Sonny?
Err you sign to train not to play.
If that's the policy we will win sweet FA.

@jezz your posting the same over and over again, yet when people try to explain what's most probably the reason why you either have no counter argument or just don't want to understand

but we can't afford to lose £30m because they won't let us have their player

I agree but Poch wants a squad with harmony, and 1 of them won't be happy. Sonny has been vital this last few seasons, an unhappy Martial will damage the harmony

VVD sold for 75 million and he's not a patch on Toby.
Reality is a world were transfers have gone bonkers and that's the world we live in.
70 million will mean nothing if your not getting your targets.

£25 won't get you anything next season, and Levy knows that

plus VVD had a longer contract

If Sonny is unhappy about competition he's at the wrong club.

I agree that Toby is world class, but also think that VVD is more or less in the same bracket. Liverpool's defence has been transformed since his arrival, plus he brings leadership to the team and a goal-scoring threat from set pieces. And finally he's a fair few years younger than our own Toby which adds millions to his value. I would much rather Toby stayed with spurs, but if he isn't renewing his contract then we simply cannot afford to watch him go for 25m in one season, or for free in two seasons' time.

With Sonny, Martial won't be guaranteed a starting spot, and the reason he wants out of Man U is due to playing time.

with Sonny our system works, with Martial it might not if he doesn't want to do the work needed

Has to make you wonder what that profile is. I guess he isn't particularly dominant in the air which may be a factor, and he can sometimes be caught for pace on a rare occasion where he doesn't read the situation. Top drawer in pretty much every other facet of the game though, unless it is an age and fitness thing?

My guess is Utd leaking to try and get leverage on Levy.

Toby is incredibly good, possibly the best in the world, at playing long diagonal passes to wide runners and point men. Mourinho wants defenders who defend and only play long diagonal passes to wide runners and point men. *eye rolling intensifies* The only doubt here is negotiating with Levy which this is clearly all part of an ongoing process.

Already said he is now likely to go! But! He always wanted to stay. He listened too much to his dodgy agent, and unwise dad. Too late I believe.

Just want this done soon one way or the other then we can concentrate on getting in targets and know what our budget is.

I don't like the idea of selling Toby at all, and even less happy about selling to United. We can claim he is "Injury prone" or "over the hill" if it makes us feel better. But if he signed a new deal we would be calling him one of the best in the world.
I understand the arguments that United are already strong at the back and I understand that if they don't sign Toby, they sign someone else and are just as strong. IMO Toby to United makes them a lot stronger. When Martial was part of the deal, it seemed like a fair trade. Now we hear Martial is a no go, it feels like we are being bullied by the bigger boys again.
Unfortunately, there are so many unknowns about transfer dealings. So it could be that United are the only ones willing to pay up. It could be that Poch has given the green light to the deal. It could be that now Toby is expecting a baby, he wants to stay somewhere he feels settled, i.e, England.
I agree that if we sell him for what is likely to be, what, £60M. We should use that to try and make a real statement signing, either the lad from Lazio, or Kovacic? From Madrid, but... Its never that simple.
