I have to agree with your argument, however, How do you square the circle? Toby has to realise the dog wags the tail, not the other way round. I know metaphors. Why should he benefit, for the better, for something he instigated by his actions.

I also agree with you, but why bite off your nose to spite your face.

we are talking about a player that has had 2 injury hit seasons, that's 29 and if he went to Man U, no guarantee he would even improve them, pretty hard to improve a team that prides it's self on defending. he won't get anywhere near £170 a week wherever he goes.

I like my face!!! Put like that I would have to go along with getting rid of him. Deep down its Manure that pissdes me of!

If 25mil is that huge of a deal for us, we aren't meant to play with the big dogs. Which its seeming like that is the case anyways with the way we are acting.

£25m is a huge number for anyone. It'll pay for about 6-7 of our players wages combined for a whole year and is £15m short of our highest ever fee paid for a player. It definitely shouldn't be frowned upon because other clubs have a sugar daddy to smash the market out of the water.

Toby is worth more, but in a years time he's worth an awful lot less to the exact suitor. Take into account his £4m per year salary that we could put towards someone that actually wants to be here and you're talking money that simply cannot be ignored at this stage of the clubs development. The clause really is a hinderence to our leeway but money is money and our hands are somewhat tied

I'd just like him to stay and play this season, regardless of what happens next summer. As a one-off exception to the norm, I'd like to see us worry about the current season rather than the one after that.

he is taking up a squad place and 75k a week in wages that could go to someone that deserves it.

I bet all you that believe we should keep him if no Martial comes will be really happy if he signs for Chelsea or Arsenal next season

Selling to United is no less palatable to me as to the other scum you reference.

Ive referenced it earlier that United Do NOT hold all the aces here... We can hold in to him until January and there would be interest there too. You working on the assumption that the story in the media of him being a disruption or being isloated is true.... It's all about the contract dispute. Thats all i see it as.

even though you quoted me twice 3 times, i'll only answer 1:cautious:

If we don't sell him now, what makes you think we will get any price in January? Kaboul was made captain, Adebayor vice captain, both featured early to then never be seen again, not even allowed to come through the training ground gates?

if you think that's worth throwing 30+m away which if it doesn't help towards this window it will in future, and all this with no guarantee he will improve them that much.

I assume we have to trigger the contract extension in January anyway right, with the 25m clause or he can sign a pre contract and walk abroad on a free?

Correct. Unless we trigger the clause, an overseas club can approach him in January.

And that would be a million times a better scenario for this club on the field. I honestly can't believe that people don't realize how much that will strengthen ManU. Absolutely Lily white colored glasses on the lot of you.

This isn't right. Early on in the window there was ITK saying Toby would be replaced.

I think de Ligt and possibly Pavard were the replacements, and with them now off the list then possibly Poch never put an option C that is better than what we have, I'm sure Poch said in his book he sees Dier as a CB

We are probably 60 mil down on where we thought we would be, it seems the centre half got cut off the list.

i certainly do understand those that suggest as a business we shouldn't turn our noses up at an additional 25m for Toby if we sell him now to United. My view however, is that by selling our world class CB to United, That could ultimately gain them 3 to 4 points over the course of the season by virtue of having a higher quality defence ... on the flip side we will lose a world class player, who would be invaluable to us in the case of injuries to our starting pair (and for cup competitions/rotation)..as such, the decision to sell him to United could result in us losing 3 to 4 points over a season and not being as strong squad wise for the cups

so, in essence, those point swings could result in us losing league places, being weakened in cups and god forbid, losing out on a CL place (potentally to United)

These permeatations would result in us losing FAR more than 25m

DONT strengthen a rival for a top 4 place whilst weakening yourself ... (unless there is something significant in it for us too)
