It is not clear what the club's ambitions are for the next 2 years, so it is understandable that some players might want to leave, especially if it is the start of one of these 5 year projects.
He'll expect to leave on a free.

Paul Jiggins (can’t remember if he’s the reliable one at the Sun) says we want 25m for Toby, certainly that rules out any Belgium clubs.

My consistent approach on these matters is if they dont want to play for the badge then they're moved on. 2015/16 I think his partnership with JV was one of the best in Europe. Get the best deal for the club and we move on.

Same approach with Kane?

If Kane really wants to leave then at some point he’ll have to be moved on. Like Modric we could get another season out of him.

But TA is on the decline and if the reports of him wanting to leave are true then we should let him go.

Unfortunately I think we just did get another season out of Kane but I agree time for Toby to go home and start the new build.

Anyone claiming we want 25m or anything like that is talking shit.
Toby had a buyout for 25m 2 years ago and no one touched him so now he's 32 there isn't a hope we would get anything more than a nominal fee for him. Most likely scenario is a free with no pay off but that is dependent on him walking away from cash because no team that will take him will be able to match the wages he gets with us and I can't see us paying him off to leave so if he isn't willing to walk away then he'll be staying

AG mentioned Royal Antwerp being interested but also acknowledged that a deal would have to be 'carefully constructed' in order for it to happen because of his wages.

Generally agree, but it’s certainly possible that we’ll need to subsidise his wages to get him off the books.

If he asks to leave, and we accept that he can leave, although would ideally have kept him, why would we subsidise his wages for him to go elsewhere? If we want rid I understand, but if he is the one who wants the move? He has to make a decision for himself, does he want to move somewhere willing to cover his wages, does he want to go to ie Antwerp and take a wage cut, or dies he want to stay at Spurs and keep his current wages.

He certainly could but this comes back to my point about leaving cash behind him. If he really wants the move then he will have to make a decision on his wages and whether he's willing to lose money over the move or not. If he's not then we should keep him, shouldn't need to pay him off to move.

Because if the teams interested in him are Belgian sides whose higher earners are usually in around £25k then despite wanting to leave a player might not take such a drop from £80k.

I have no doubt a lot of our players would like to leave, that doesn’t mean they’ll take huge salary cuts though.

In a perfect world yes. I actually think TA might take a cut where others wouldn’t.

But keeping a declining player on £80k a week for 2 years who wants to leave is not a good situation. It’s better to pay off a part of the salary and free up a squad space and paying his full salary.

if Toby stays we could sell both dier and Sanchez for example and keep him as a cheap back up option. There's a lot of factors to be taken into account on this one. Personally I wouldn't pay him off to leave as we can use him over next 2 years when needed, sell 2 other CBs to raise money for starting CB's and he's a good pro.
Let's face it, building a squad is a huge complicated endeavour with a load of factors to consider so whether he will leave is still very up in the air.
