I've iterated my thoughts previously on him mainly that I feel sorry for him but also recognise HE IS SOOOOOOOOOOO Shit. If he played for anyone else everyone on here would be laughing their cocks off.

I will say though it would have been interesting to see Janssen on with GKN... He may have been in the box more as a result. I said a while back that because we would play in front of defenses, Janssen finds it difficult to get space but with someone like GKN on getting in behind it may have Janssen face the goal for fucking once.

It's true - if any other team had payed £18m for him we'd be laughing and judging him as a failure

It's only spurs glasses and blind optimism that is hoping he will come good at this stage

He's strong and can link play but has nothing else to his game (Soldado did this too, possibly better)

His touch is poor, he lacks pace, mobility and agility.

He had a great opportunity when he started against Gillingham in the cup and was presented with a hatfull of glorious chances yet wasted them all. The only way he scored was a pity penalty that Erkisen let him take despite being on a hattrick

He looks woeful and does nothing to suggest he's good enough or will be good enough

I'd be amazed if he was still her next season

I think we forgot that Holland are not as strong as they once were and bought in to the hype of his scoring record in a shit box Dutch league without really analysing his attributes and assessing how well they fit in to our unit (probably because he wasn't our real target and we panicked once we missed out on who we actually wanted)

Poor scouting and poor planning I feel and we've dropped a bollock with this one. Will have to take a hit on his transfer fee to get him out and hopefully replace him with someone who can add something to our squad

Bad line up for him today, who's gonna set him up? Trippier and that's it and most of our play was down the left
Son is the greediest player we have pretty much, still like him but he likes a goal
Sissoko he's just a battering ram and I like him too but he don't assist or score but he has uses
Idk Jansen is on a hiding to nothing most games
I like a lot of what he gives us and I think given game time he's fine cover for our Harry

We still scored two goals whatever the line up was.

Janssen never looked remotely close to even getting a shot off today. He has also played alongside most of our team and has still not bothered the scoreboard.

He is unlikely to start with Kane and is not good enough to lead the line. Poch has a real task on his hands to turn his game around and i just can't see him cutting it at this level.

What I saw from Janssen against Villa was a player who I think even his biggest detractors would admit has played better against better clubs (even if he hasn't scored), and looked totally dreadful today. Generally, early in the season the comments were often that he played well, linked up well, got some good assists, but isn't scoring and that is his main job. Today he never even looked remotely like scoring - and Villa are pretty modest opposition these days - and the rest of his play was poor too.

I see a lot of folk are quoting Shearer, but I think I'd disagree with him - at least partially. I don't think Janssen is consciously trying to avoid the penalty area. It looked to me more like he was constantly moving towards the ball in a desperate need to try to do something. Unfortunately, by doing that he is actually getting away from the positions where he might do something. But the bottom dollar is that his confidence looks totally shot now, whereas as it didn't earlier in the season.

that's not my crew...we wear pointy peasant hats!
I don't think Shearer was saying he was consciously doing it - that he was so lacking in confidence and wanting to score that he was trying too hard and making the wrong choice. He was trying too hard to just get on the ball all the time - which is fine but on occasion did leave him out of position.

He had a shot on target today...

Whatever.

He's bloody woeful.

Totally agree. Vincent Janssen is dogshit and it's not often I give up on players in such a short space of time. Soldado was pretty useless at times but atleast he actually got into positions to miss those chances. He was always buzzing around the box and always had that ability to get a goal scoring opportunity. The problem with Soldado was he just couldn't seem to finish off chances and ended up being a flop. Vincent Janssen I don't actually has ever looked remotely like he's going to test the keeper let alone score a goal. A total dud of a striker signing and I think we just have to bite the bullet with this one.

I know many have thought it way before today but today's game was the first time I've really started to think maybe he won't make it with us.... There's just so much wrong with his game right now and he seems to play 90% of his matches with his back to goal. As well as this he seems to be severely lacking confidence, he lost the ball needlessly a couple of times in the recent game. With the way he's actually going about playing his football on the pitch it's really hard to see him getting many goals at all.

We might be in more trouble than I initially would have thought if Kane gets injured.

who do you think will take a non scoring striker on loan - other than Dutch sides?

Well thats the issue isn't it, don't get me wrong I want to see him do well and he may do long term but I think he is really going to struggle without playing time available. And I just don't see him getting much of that with us unless Kane is injured again, I dont know who would take a punt but I do think he will improve once he gets solid minutes! West Ham lol "washes mouth out"

He was trying too hard to just get on the ball all the time - which is fine but on occasion did leave him out of position.

Shearer said: "
He keeps coming towards the ball instead of getting into the six-yard box where he could actually score goals."

And that's fine. I said I only partially disagreed with him. I agree with this.

But he went on to say:
He is taking the easy way out and he looks to me that he is frightened of missing chances."

Now that does imply that he is consciously doing something, taking the easy way out and it is driven by fear, fear of missing chances. And I don't agree with that at all. I don't believe he is consciously looking for an easy option - by going towards the ball I believe he is desperately trying to force something to happen. And whether it is fear, frustration, or whatever you want to call it, loss of form accompanied by a loss of confidence is a common phenomenon among strikers. I don't believe he is stopping, thinking to himself that he might miss and so deciding to run towards the ball and away from the area. And maybe Shearer didn't mean it to sound quite the way it did - he isn't necessarily the most eloquent speaker. But it does sound pretty much like it.

You guys are way too harsh. It's the lad's first season in a new country and league.

Yes he doesn't look sharp but we as a team need to help him along by actually trying to play to his strengths which is to play the ball in past defenders so he can recieve the ball facing goal and get his shot away. Soldado had similar problems and we can't keep buying people with fantastic scoring records, deny them the sort of service they have scored from and lay the blame all at their feet.

i honestly don't think he has any strengths. He isn't even fast enough to get in behind the line, prem defenders much more superior than the dutch

Perhaps we need to make the number 9 on the back of a Spurs shirt out of fabric instead of the code 1 lead that is currently stuck to the back of it?
