Whilst we have a month left of the transfer window, I miust admit that I am now beginning to get frustrated that rivals have been signing some players and we have not (and no I don't count the two kids or Bradley).

We've all read the ITK and, whilst the targets change the theme that seems to be running through most of them is that Levy will not buy until he sells. I realise ideally we would like to shift wages before making signings, but if Levy keeps holding out while we not, ince again, compound our ability to get the right signings in? Or should he just take the plunge, get in the new boys and then try and shift?

Maybe this is just uncalled for worrying and I will soon be eating my words. But, I have to say, that I thought we'd have someone in by now.

It's a really tough one because I can see why Levy wants to shift players before buying. If you take Hutton, Gio, Keane, Bentley and Bassong as five players who we are supposedly trying to shift, and at a conservative estimate give them an average wage of 40,000 per week (it's probably more) then if they stayed, that's close to 10.5m a year for 5 players who may get about 2 games between them. When you add on the potential 15-20m in transfer fees (possibly more) you're looking at 30m+ that the club could be losing out on if they stay.

If his transfer plan is built on freeing up that 30m then you can see why he wouldn't want to buy before he sells.

But on the flip side, if we don't buy anyone then the club could go backwards which might cost us alot more than 30m.

it's a very tricky balancing act. I'm glad it's not my job.

unfortunately these players dont want to up root north to the likes of bolton and blackburn and the only other london clubs who would take them are QPR and fulham who cant really afford the wages. the only real option is Villa as thats a couple of hours from london at least, pretty much a club of equal size and should be willing to pay the same wages, possibly more

No matter what the names are we are carrying dead weight and the prices Levy wants plus the player wage demands have backfired on the club. There must be a tipping point or we will star t the season with the same players..

So your spot on

It is a balancing act and I would fancy it either, bloody tricky.

What makes me concerned is that by trying to get the best deal on every occassion, both out and in comings, might see our strategy stagnate somewhat. Not saying that is wrong, of course it isn't...getting the best deal for the Club should always be the priority...but a little latitude here and there wouldn't go a miss either if we are to make head way.

The longer it takes to shift some players and agree deals on incomings the less likely we'll see quality additions arrive - IMO of course.

A tad simplistic maybe, but thats the way I see it.

Of course the problem is that the likes of Keane, Jeans, Hutton etc...I'm not so sure any of them want to move...up north for half their wages, and you can start to quickly sense how difficult it is to off load these players.

The general conditions of the market place arn't conducive either...inflated prices, 25 man squads...finacial fair play regulations to plan for.

If we could manage to off load two or three in the coming weeks perhaps we'll see movement but I have to say I really expected one or two more to be gone by now.

if we look at the bigger picture, I believe a new stadium also bears heavily on the current decisions being made in the market.

I think the 25 man squad rule, coupled with clubs trying to get their books in shape for the introduction of the financial fair play rules has made it really difficult to shift our surplus players and has contributed to a fairly inactive transfer market.

we should loan keane jenas crouch hutton and bentley to rangers in time for the second leg of their CL game and insist you buy two if you get through. just a thought and it does not affect europa league i think
