Poch: We must move quickly to secure signings in transfer window

Obviously, the issue with this is that in recent years, we've only engaged in deficit spending early in the window when it was all but assured we'd be selling very important players for huge sums later on.

If we move on targets early, I'll take it as a sign that Lloris and likely Vertonghen will be sold. I just don't see any evidence that Levy, despite record television revenues that have allowed West Ham and Everton to even spend 30 million pounds net, is willing to spend more than the club takes in via player sales.

The biggest problem with doing late business this summer is EPL teams will be willing to spend early to secure targets, as they know that finishing 6th starting the following season would see them net nearly 140 million pounds in television income, so they can spend aggressively knowing that form 2016-2019, they're guaranteed huge income streams. Clubs like Swansea and Southampton sitting on cash reserves will go out and sign players in that 10-15 million dollar bracket that we fancy if we wait around til August looking to offload our deadwood.

Unfortunately, Pochettino would be the one that is held culpable for inaction in the transfer window if the squad ultimately has poor results, so I don't blame him for stating this publicly early on.

Poch. is correct, we can't compete financially with top 4 teams yet.. until new stadium built. Even then it will take 2 years to see the financial levels to allow top players incoming. So for now we need the young players to progress.. like Harry, Dele, Pritchard etc. Daniel Levy should have now realised that his policy of brinkmanship in transfer windows over last 10 years has not worked, and we get the players who are "second tier" But credit to him for making us a financially stable club.

Agree also that Poch. has to have a tactical plan B and C as to who we are playing, and the way the opposition are doing their best to nullify our players / movement during a game.

I agree that this is his intention, but the difficulty is as it has been in the past few summers: we need to sell players, too, and the club is not so financially powerful (except after we sell a player unwillingly for a huge sum) that it can lash out on new players until it can rely upon selling the ones they will replace and until it has a canny notion of how much the sales will raise.

I think with the TV money we could buy a few but the main concern for Levy would be the wage bill decreasing before we bring anyone in.

I have a feeling 6 or 7 have been told to get their agents knocking on doors months ago.
