Totally agree. You got certain section of Spurs fans that get more pleasure out of "net spend " than they do going out and showing a bit of ambition to push us that next level up. I'm sure Mancity supporters when Aguero smashed that last minute winner for the title were saying " I wish we had better net spend " .... fact of the matter is we have a chairman that whilst has done some great things, is also an absolute nightmare in transfer market when it comes to preparing the manager for a season. Every summer it's like Groundhog Day. We are always short of something or someone. This summer takes the absolute piss though. Not 1 single reinforcement and not even looking likely or close to making one either. You even have our manager coming out and saying exactly what us sane Spurs fans have been saying for donkeys years. Get our bussiness done early so we can go into a season prepared for once. I can't wait to win the net spend trophy again this season.

The thing that irritates me is that Levy seems to think that waiting until the last minute will net us a bargain on a player, it won't and it rarely does, what normally happens is, all our original targets have already signed contracts with the clubs they are with because we dragged our feet or they have left for another club willing to meet the original transfer fee.

Then, Levy panic buys at the last minute to keep the manager happy because he didn't get his original targets (see Sissoko) and ends up having to pay £30M anyway but on a complete flop.

And what is the lesson that Daniel takes from this? It's not that he should be more proactive in the market and maybe concede on some deals to make sure the manager gets his targets, oh no, it's "Well, look what happened last time I spent £30M, it was a waste of money, we can't afford to be taking gambles like that anymore."

That's just my impression of the situation over the years anyway, what Levy has to realise is, the money wouldn't be wasted if we knew how to spend the money wisely, there is talent out there we can find at good prices (look at Alli for example) but we need to act fast and early and sometimes you know, pay that little bit extra, we got £50M for Kyle, have we seen that money reinvested in another RB and some more depth? No.

I can't help but think that Mitchell leaving has really affected things as well, we seem to have a scatter gun approach right now, Levy's biggest failing and strength has been transfers, he is great at finding a bargain sometimes but more often than not, his approach backfires and leaves us short at the start of every campaign.

We might not be able to afford to blow money left right and centre but you know what we can afford even less? Having this team and this manager break up because we have shown a lack of ambition.

I will say it again, a stadium isn't going to be enough to keep footballers happy, they want trophies and to compete with the best and they want to earn what the best earn, it's frankly a miracle that we have managed to even keep the players we have happy for so long considering half of them could earn double what they get currently and walk into pretty much any side in this league, credit to Poch for that.

Spurs have acted early in the past. Last year we bought Wanyama and Jannsen early.1 was great 1 was a pretty much a flop.

This window has been a mare outside looking in but it has been made much more complex with clubs awash with tv money making ordinary players crazy expensive.

There is merit in waiting as often the richer clubs inflate prices early as they are sniffing around so many players. Once they have signed their key targets the market gets a bit more sensible. I remember reading an article where W*ng*r was saying something similar about this about 5 years ago.

I think the Neymar deal will make the last few weeks crazier as it could have a domino effect. If Barca sign Coutinho as an example then Liverpool will feel the need to sign a replacement quickly and prices will become further inflated.

I think we need to wait until after the window has closed before we analyse how successful or not it has been.

Keeping what we have got is the greatest "signings" we can make. The fact that in years gone by most of our best players were going going gone somewhere else. Wow they all seem to now want to stay and the goals against Juve show the rest why we should be feared. Poch has V Good recorded of improving players , they are going to be like new signings.

Henry Percy you are a wise man. Buying players is like buying on the share market. Buying at the top of the curve is fraught with risk. The prices being asked for players is ridiculous. Let's face it £40-50m being bandied about for Gilfy and others like him, and the £50m we got for a full back who can't cross a ball says it all. Remember the old cliché...... Patience is a virtue. We might be a little thin on the ground due to current injuries and could do with a couple of more for depth but the 11 that started against Juve + Wanyama Rose Lamela Son Winks imo are a very enviable lot and that includes Sisokko who had a decent game and showed what he is capable off.

Of course everyone else is playing the transfer merry go round while Tottenham stand back and watch is the narrative being played out in media.
Poch isn't silly nor is Levy we have a pretty solid team it would take approx 50 million to improve any position within our strongest 11 going by current market values. In the meantime Poch knows the players the players know what is expected, I reckon we'll be up there challenging...I am perfectly happy with our squad including the depth when you look at the players we have out and how those players have been covered with the depth of the squad to me shows we are fully equipped for the season ahead.
