Tottenham have proved they have the squad to handle the Europa League’s early stages but is it powerful enough to sustain them for the remainder of the season?

Backup striker that would be willing to learn and be a peripheral figure.

And I would agree.

Wouldn't want to unbalance the squad or risk the harmony that seems evident in recent performances.

Although that may be harder to keep in the coming weeks as players return from fitness... (although perfect time for it in the busy Christmas period)

Still think we should get Berahino, he's only a sub at WBA, and was desperate to join us when he was a first team regular, so will be even more so now.

Premier League proven, young, English and played with Kane for the U21's, Contracts probably all sorted and WBA may consider our offer to be fair now!

Get it done.

This is the most relevant and canniest paragraph of that article:

Yet all have trained exhaustively to understand Pochettino’s energetic, high-pressing style of play. For a player who joined in mid-season, it would be difficult to adapt sufficiently quickly.

If we need it or not its better to get one in, as previous seasons have shown when we have gambled and not got one in we've lost out.

This is the most relevant and canniest paragraph of that article:
Good point - but it comes with two caveats: if you can find a player who is already playing a similar style, the ability to assimilate will be easier. Similarly, it is easier to drop a single player into a system when the other 9 players are on the same page.

Not ideal - but then again, losing a player like Kane or Dier will always be less than ideal

Surely we need a striker?? Is that even debatable?
But that's it.
We're good all over the pitch in every other position but if Kane gets injured for a few months any chance of top 4 or Europa cup will be well out the window.

I agree, that's why I think - along with paceyjg above - that we need Berahino.....a little insurance now, plus, who knows, we could be buying another Defoe!

My only concern with Berahino is his attitude.
Will he tow the party line?
No doubting his ability but we really don't need anyone upsetting the apple cart when the squad are all singing from the same hymn sheet....

lol, thats proper football bollocks talk that is ;)

Fazio and Townsend out.....use the money to bring in and out and out striker!
Then you could argue that the squad is then set for the next few seasons, with more youngsters in the pipeline, under the buying restraints a new stadium will bring.

So far we've been lucky with injuries, they've all come in midfield where there are more options. This is still a small squad compared with even one year ago. Might be wise to bring in one or two, maybe not regular starters but just to get some cover. The guys who came in against Monaco did well making me think our squad is stronger than I'd thought.

Agree. There a suggestions within this forum, that it'll be one of Berahino, Depoitre or Dembele, depending how easy their respective clubs are to deal with. If they are all Pochettino's favoured options, then great, any will do. All offer something a little different from each other, which would make them suitable.
Throw in a viable CB option if/when Fazio goes, someone Pochettino will be happy to use, give Toby the odd breather. Be nice to see Velkjovic sign up and step up.
DM, I'm less concerned than I originally was, Bentaleb and Mason did a decent job for us last year, and currently Dier, Alli and Dembele are currently doing the business. AM/WF, not needed, we're well stocked there.
Some great options on the horizon too, Onomah put in a decent showing last night, Oduwa will definitely return a better player for a season of senior experience. Winks is also highly rated, and the likes of Walker-Peters and Carter-Vickers hovering. Pritchard yet to come back from injury too.

History should tell you that Poch will only get someone in that he wants, no stocking fillers just to get cover. Else we would have Austin already.
We need a second striker. Not just as back up but to allow Harry some proper rotation so he does not burn out or get a serious injury. As per Poch's philosophy that means someone who is comfortable playing in another role also.

Apart from that we don't urgently need anyone else as far as I can see...

From the Monaco game and result I can see why MP says this.
4 goals without Kane on the pitch so we are capable, whether we could cope for a longish period if HK gets injured is very debatable though.

The problem with Berahino will be this,I believe our final offer was £23m, this would indicate he was Poch's first choice or at least high up the list. He has done little to push his price up this season and I think Levy would see it as quite the opposite. I feel sorry for the boy because I think he really wanted to play at the lane but I feel reaching a financial agreement that suits both parties will be hard. Only time will tell if its becomes a missed opportunity for all parties.

As well as a striker I still think we lack a real leader on the pitch. A captain who'll tell the guys to pull their socks up when needed. We've a very young team and I think we really need a King, Terry, Adams, Parker, Keane type character.
Who or how we go about doing that I've no idea especially without upsetting the team ethic we currently have.
Something to sort next season maybe.
