If Poch really believes that, it depresses me, as that's our most needed upgrade position in the summer. (Or words to that effect).

To be fair there are no standout left backs in the PL with Cole and Evra gone and Baines off form, but to me Azpilicueta has been really impressive. Also impressed by Cresswell. Defenders who can defend.

the Mail has a story from yesterday where they quote Poch saying
'Danny has been the best English left back this season. I look at the stats and other players in his position. I also look at his performances, which have been great.'

Video doesn't mention the English part, but maybe that was the question they asked.

If so, then surely he's right. Who else is there to compare to? Shaw has been a massive disappointment. Can't think of many others. Gibbs perhaps? his 5 appearances before getting injured yet again..

Cresswell, Baines, Bertrand all mentioned in the article actually, none stand out as better than Rose. Cresswell and Bertrand have been decent the few times I've seen them and Baines has not been as good as before.

Cresswell, Bertrand and Gibbs have all looked pretty good when I've watched them. None is remotely eye-catching but they all look solid defenders and can play a supporting role going forward.

Rose makes some eye-catching runs but to me he has not improved much as a defender in all the years since he was pushed back from midfield. His positional errors cost us time and again. And his delivery from wide areas is poor. The weakest player in our first 11 by a distance, andI'll say it again, I hope Poch doesn't really plan on keeping him as our first choice for next season.
