I was just watching the latest Spurs TV interview with Pochettino and in it he says;

Personally I hope we do go for it. ;)

Actions speak louder words, I will believe it when I see it. I simply do not trust him when it comes to the cups, he is no different to Redknapp in that regard.

Lets be honest, there is nothing Poch loves more than playing a very strong team in the group stages to qualify for europa league knockouts before playing a weak side in the knockouts

Honestly, if we can't qualify from our bang average CL group we've got absolutely no business at all claiming that winning the Europa League is even a remote possibility.
We haven't, in the best part of 10 years of being in it, come close to troubling the usual suspects in the latter stages.

I'd argue its mostly because we haven't tried to trouble any of them. We've gotten lucky on some occasions (Like Dembele's last second screamer against Lyon I believe), but all our managers have put the effort into trying to get top 4.

If we tried, we really could get something. Liverpool got to the final...

We could but then our league form will undoubtedly suffer.

They also finished 8th in the league.

The only times in recent memory when British clubs have had a proper go at this competition Has been when their league season has gone down the shitter. The only exception I think is Chelsea, whose second string team is ridiculous and worth about £400 million.

This debate really does seem to be a question of priority and it seems that as a fanbase we are quite split on that.

However, the priority of the club is very clear. It's the league.

  1. It's a trophy. You don't develop winning mentality by throwing away competitions.
  2. It is an insurance for Champions League qualification.
People need to remember that if we beat CSKA and go into the Europa, our campaign starts in February. European football is put aside for two months. In two months we could go through poor league form and find ourselves off the pace for Top 4. I'd rather have the Europa carrot knowing we can go full throttle at it - like Liverpool last season.

I disagree. If Crouch hadn't have acted like a total fucknugget during that CL game, we would've stood a very good chance against Mourinho and Real. If I remember correctly, even Jose admitted that after the game.

EDIT: Unless I misunderstood and you explicitly mean against EL teams?
