Pochettino would rather promote Academy prospects than sign big names

Good to hear, very good to hear. 'Patience' is the key word though - and that also has to be with us, as fans. We are too quick to both praise young players as the "next [insert name]" and then equally as quick to slate them. Just look at Eric Dier - - scores a couple of goals and he's fantastic; makes a couple of mistakes in an unflavoured position and he's terrible.

I dont think we need to take this quite as literally as it sounds. It's more just a case of Poch stating that our young players will get chances if we they show the quality.

We will ALWAYS have to make moves in the transfer market if we want to compete at the highest level so I dont feel that these quotes should be seen as us suddenly shutting up shop on signing players from outside the club.

Agreed. What it also does is let it be known that we are not desperate to sign players, which puts us in a better negotiating position for players we do actually want to sign.

In between the end of January and the seasons end we will still have some idiot ranting about Levy not signing anyone or not who they think we need.

What was the point getting that Mitchell dude in then?

I think the idea being that when we do decide to buy players, we don't end up with adebeyor, Chiriches, Soldado, Paulinho, and others that cost fortunes and deliver very little, other than in some cases, being really nice blokes.

Careful, Poch, apparently Spurs fans don't like managers playing youth (© Tim Sherwood)

Great news. It seems Poch will only buy players who really needed or players who really decent for us..

So true. I remember people on here posting that Paulinho was the best midfielder in the league about 18 months ago and I made a similar point then.

Swallows and summers etc.

Give people a fair chance and then assess them. Don't rush to conclusions, one way or another.
