I'm not stating that we can't dream but in the past we've been notorious for 'sh*tting the bucket'. My viewpoint is that I'm enjoying the football we're playing, the young team that we have and that we are in a good position. I can't deny I've thought about us getting top 4 and I'm also not saying our predictions are going to have a bearing on the outcome of our position:cautious::cautious:

You stated that thinking 5 games ahead is where we lose momentum , I have followed Spurs for 30 years and I am aware of our ability to balls things up , but that has never happened due to me predicting a few results , on the other hand I understand your view and I am also enjoying the team and the results so far this season , but it doesn't hurt to think what we can achieve without shouting it from the rooftops .

I meant that it is when you start thinking we will win the next 5 games is an attitude where you can lose momentum. You forget to beat what is ahead of you in the first place rather than thinking of taking it one game at a time.

I'm sure Poch has drilled it into the team any way and from my years following spurs, I do in fact think we will do something special this season. I'm just wary that is is a long season and what a few weeks of bad results can do to a teams morale ie. Chelsea/Fiorentina in February.

As long as the team are focusing on the next match that's all that matters

Guys. Remember this too.

All of us have subconsciously lowered our sights over the years.

There was a time when we were all ultra disappointed if we were not in with the expectation of winning the league.

I believe we are in a very good space now.

Levy has us developing steadily on field. He has got us the fantastic facilities at Hotspur Way and not far away now to the money making machine of the dual use new 61k capacity stadium.

Above all we remain by far the top English club in the EPL !

Actually, I believe that fans complacency does transmit itself to the players somehow. I've been a fan for 35 years and have seen it so many times. We start thinking ahead of ourselves and inevitably we screw it up.

I remember before the FA Cup semi-final against Portsmouth where there were posts on forums such as this asking about how to get tickets to the final. I remember 'Mind the Gap'. I remember fans turning up in Barcelona shirts because we were obviously going to get 4th ahead of the Goons and the only way we wouldn't get into CL was if they won the thing. I remember throwing away in effect a 13 point margin at half-time at the Emirates....

But that's just me...

I don't agree, I think if the players are professional enough they will see the job through, I can't imagine for a minute that there's players in the dressing room thinking that they have a top four placed wrapped up, Poch will keep them grounded as he himself has shown absolute professionalism and humbleness and that will only translate to the players.

The fact that we've had some pretty bad luck over the last few years is probably clouding your judgement as well.

Titles in the bag mate, relax lol.

Agree this is bonkers. I'll be really amazed/impressed if we finish 4th. That would be an incredible achievement both for Poch and this team.
We're still at the stage where 4th could come down to (hypothetically) a home match against a shower of shit (Newcastle for example) and we'd fk it up so talk of winning the PL is, as I said earlier, embarrassing and frankly stupid.
Plus we're still in the position of if Kane gets injured we're buggered.
If this season has showed us anything its that trying to guess a result is a waste of time.
We're capable of thumping Man City then losing to Newcastle at home.
If we can repeat the first half of the season and come out with only 4 losses then that would be impressive.
edit- I meant the game against Newcastle not we'll play them again :stop:

I think people are getting carried away with what the thread is about , me personally I am not saying we will win the league , but if we get 12 - 15 points in next 5 games we are definitely in the title race , you can't deny that . I understand people not wanting to count the chickens because of past disappointments . I genuinely believe we can get 10 points which in the original post I say that will keep us in the CL race , I was not talking about the eventual league position because there is a long way to go , which is why I purposely set the thread about the next 5 games . The 5 games after that I may view very differently depending on form and fixture congestion but I will worry about that later . Little steps

Maybe I am scarred by our previous failings and it does cloud my judgement. However, if it keeps on happening it's not 'bad luck', is it?

I'm a believer that the crowd at a match can act as the '12th Man' both postively and negatively.

If it keeps on happening then mentally we have a problem however we've never gone 16 matches unbeaten in the league nor have we had this good a defence at this stage or goal difference so things can change.

a lot of this is already being discussed in the top 4 thread

I agree but it went a bit off topic I was specifically asking where we would be after 5 games

i'll let you know after we play Norwich;)

don't get me wrong i'm very excited about this season, and really feel we are going somewhere. I look at all the fixtures and think we should win this, or we're fucked in that, or worried about that, but thinking more than 1 week ahead at the moment is bloody hard, might have something to do with the next 8 days, 2 minor operations and an investigation that i'm dreading the results from.

at moment I've a season ticket at Addenbrooks
