With their debts there has been some talk surrounding whether or not they should be allowed to participate in the final against Chelsea.

Now i now its a long shot really, and personally i think that they should play, but what are the chances that we could be reinstated??

What are the rules??

None.

You win the semi final, you're through to the final

In all seriousness, they will play, there's no way the FA will do anything. Chelsea, Man Yoo, Liverpool were/are more in debt than Pompey.

I know that the chances are very slim and i'm against it happening but was just asking the question really.

Stranger things have happened.

Pompey need all the money they can get, let them lose their final to Chelski and be done with it.

what? no..

we lost..

it sucks, but deal with it

Erm i have dealt with it. Pompey beat us fair and square and they should play Chelsea in the final.

I'm purely asking the question to prompt a debate as it was mentioned on SSN and apparently even some Pompey fans think they should be booted out!

Says that their debt is about £199m

Man Utd - roughly £700m in debt.
Woolwich - roughly £300m in debt.
Liverpool - roughly £250m in debt.

Chelsea - their opponents in the FA Cup Final - roughly £500m in debt.

I think the argument about amounts of debt excluding teams from competitions will quickly be hushed up by Sky, the Premier League and, i expect, the FA as fast as they surface.

There is no way that the FA can start deciding who can and who can't enter their competitions based on debt. If that was the case and Pompey (sorry, i put £199m, should've been £119m) are booted but Chelsea, who are in 4 times more debt than them, were allowed to compete then this isn't about debt at all, rather who has the most savvy financiers and who's owner has their thumbs in enough pies to be able to shuffle that debt around.

The top four have enormous debts - if the FA are even considering this move then, in a perfect world, the top four will be shitting themselves. S'funny how they have such astronomical debts and everyone else (aside from Citeh, with debts of about £150m) averages out at around the £50m - £75m mark, which just goes to prove, if you want to compete with the top then you have to spunk money that you don't have and then rely on your accountants to stop the ship capsizing.

weak.

There is a huge difference between the Sky 4's debt and Pompey's debt, in that the Sky 4 have managed to service their debt, either by turning over enough money or because of their respective owners, whereas Pompey have defaulted on their debt.

It may well be that the Sky 4 and Man City are going to have problems in the future, but that is their lookout and it may be sooner than we think at Liverpool, but untuil they default on their debt we can't really put them in the same category as Portsmouth.

As for replacing Portsmouth in the final, it ain't going to happen, they beat us fair and square in the semi, if Tottenham ever agreed to take to the field under those cicumstances I would be ashamed to call myself a Tottenham fan.

Personally I don't think Portsmouth would be prevented from playing in the final, and I'd hate to see us playing there when we don't deserve to be there.

Not that this would ever happen, but were Portsmouth barred from playing, surely the next best thing would be for the two losing semi-finalists to battle it out for a place in the final.

If Portsmouth couldn't play, and the only remotely concievable way I can see that happening is if they are wound up before the final, the only fair thing to do, as much as it pains me, would be to declare Chelsea the winners as they would be the only unbeaten team left in the competition.

And they can play an England 11 in the mock final.

I think there's a case for booting Portsmouth out of the competition because they've cheated, just like they cheated when they won the competition a couple of years back;
* They bought players they had no hope of ever affording.
* They took on debt they couldn't service even if they'd qualfied for the
Champions League.
* They paid wages that only the Sky4 and Real Madrid could afford.

As I say, they cheated - worse than if they'd played just one ineligble player in the competition (instant disqualification) or if a player had tested positive for drugs, however there's as much merit in reinstating whoever they beat in the 3rd round as allowing us to play in the final.
