Avram Grant is going to ask Harry Redknapp to let Jamie O’Hara play for Portsmouth against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final.

The Pompey chief hopes that his close friendship with Spurs chief Redknapp will persuade him to let the on-loan midfielder take part in the Wembley clash - to make it more of a game.

Grant is reeling from the loss of top man Nadir Belhadj, whose hamstring injury looks set to rule him out, and his squad is down to the bare bones for the clash with their old manager.

Redknapp and Spurs could allow O’Hara to play and his availability for the fixture is at Tottenham’s discretion. It is against the rules in Premier League clashes, but NOT in the FA Cup.

Grant and Redknapp speak on a regular basis, friends since a spell together at Portsmouth. And the Israeli hopes the Tottenham manager’s sense of fair play may give him a chance.

The former Chelsea chief knows that the Wembley date will mean a lot to the club’s beleaguered supporters and thinks that Spurs may see this as a goodwill gesture.

O’Hara caused trouble when he said he hoped Spurs would lose their replay with Fulham to avoid this personal clash with his employers. But now he could get a shock reprieve.
the CLUB is more important than one little player's wembley dream. Hope Levy steps in IF harry becomes all sympathetic to pompey and his mate Avram and the "great kid" O'hara.

We should win the game whether they have O'hara or not. But still, why the hell would we give them a player that makes a huge difference to their team?

Imagine if JOH got the winner? Would be career suicide for manager and chairman. Not in a million years.

Having said that, we should let Pompey beg for a bit first before declining the request. The site of Avram Grant crawling outside the ground in full gimp suit could give everyone a lift.

It couldn't happen, as it would make a mockery of the whole loan system.

The fact that loan players cannot play against there parent clubs is there to protect the integrity of the game. Jamie O is a Spurs fan, yes he is a professional and will play and try his hardest for Portsmouth, but, and it is a but, what would happen if Jamie O by mistake scored an own goal that puts us through in a tight game. The repurcussions would be huge.

He wouldn't have meant to do it, but no one would know. That is why he cannot play in that game.

I didn't know that the FA Cup was different. Anyone able to confirm it as if not then it makes a mockery of the suggestion (not backed up by any quotes or sustainable evidence, natch) in this article.

I'll be honest, I don't think it's that big a deal to let him play. If we shit ourselves about playing Jamie O'Hara we really don't deserve to win the bloody cup anyway. Although his dead balls might make a game of it.

In most other European leagues, loanee's always play against their parent club but it seem's a real taboo over here. Obviously we will say no chance to Pompey due to the importance of the game but I think the rule should be changed. Players like Joe Hart have won points for Birmingham against rivals to Man Citeh, but then he can't play against them, so is that an advantage for Citeh? I think so.

No room for sentiment in an FA Cup semi final, even though I feel for the guy.

 That's true. Still though, shouldn't strengthen them if we have a choice of letting him play or not.

I agree completely, the main reason for not allowing loanees to lay is this, surely, that they could act in favour of the parent club.

I'm not sure what good begging us would do. It's not like we can overrule the FA. Although with Levy you never know I suppose.
