The big four would never criticise their players like that in public - no course they would'nt but how many of their fans think that they are going to concede at every set piece? What he was saying and quite right too was that enough is enough we are a team that are trying to get better and whilst our mid field and attack are changing, getting better every game defensively we are getting worse.

Enough is enough means we need a better defence, that does not necessarily mean getting rid of the defence it means -

1) A keeper that can command his own 6 yard box
2) EXPERIENCED defenders not prospects
3) A commanding captain that can actually play week in week out

We all know Ledders is excellent but he cannot make 90 minutes week in week out so as the man said enough is enough!

That being said, Mourinho used to do this and I for one love the no nonsense approach. He's firm and decisive and I think that, that is the direction the club needs. He's also a winner.

Mourinho can/could because he is a proven manager. Gus is just a glorified translator/ex-spurs player come to help out.

I know I am being harsh on Gus. I actually like the fella alot. But you can see my point.

the last person I remember saying "enough is enough and its time for a change" was Owen Hart. I hope the same outcome doesn't happen to Gus

i think its wrong to assume that gus is not echoing the managers opinion. Hes hardly gonna come out and say the oposite of what his boss says.

oh, and you are being very harsh on gus

If the changes don't work out, then heads will roll and we'll go into another transition period. Although I enjoyed the interview, I don't think he should have talked about new players coming in.

I appreciate what Gus said, and the manner in which it came out... Whether or not he should have gone as far as he did is debatable, as he himself said his emotions affected him...

Ramos has been in charge long enough for it to be clear our problems are ones that won't be ironed out with coaching - when opposition players are losing their markers on such a regular basis, what difference will it make?

Dawson played very well alongside King a couple of seasons ago, but we can't rely on that - what do we do when King doesn't play? I'm sure Ramos knows we need experience in defence, let's hope either a) he can convince Levy to pay what's needed or b) we can pick up someone on the cheap...

In the meantime, the current players should now be looking over their shoulders during January and play as if their jobs depend on it (hell, they should be doing that every week)

Oh, please

It hasn't occurred to you that in his role as 'glorified translator' he is stating Ramos' feelings? Apparently not.

considering we've been making the same fucking elementary mistakes for 18 months with 2 different coaches i should hope there would be some big changes.

did anyone on here not think that we would concede both those goals? (both from needless set pieces by the way)? corners feel like fucking penalties at the moment.

what do you think every single coach in the premiership will be saying to their players before they play us?

Gus is a recently retired player who still reacts like one. That is all. As he said, he perhaps needed to have some time to calm down before facing the cameras. I am sure Ramos will have a quiet word with him about wearing his heart on his sleeve too much.

Cannot draw comparisons with big 4 coaches. None of them have had to contend with such a glaring, repeated, basic inadequacy in their team. Gus knows we are being laughed at and it cannot go on. A line has to be drawn. Its not getting better, the players there have not learnt from previous mistakes. He only just restrained himself from turning to camera and saying "Wes, how much do you want?". If any of our current players are insulted by what Gus said on camera then sod them, they can go.

Sometimes the best way to tell a spade, it's a spade.....well you know. We all complain about the fact that we never hear anything but cliches in interviews, but here's the truth....concise and pretty much on the dot

Good on ya gus

Yeah, that's how it works in your head, congratulations on complete self-delusion.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, I quite enjoyed what Poyet said tonight. I actually think he went a little over the top, and it got a little uncomfortable at one point, but generally it needed to be said.

I think the problem is actually getting in the players we need. Can anyone think of an experienced central defender, of the required quality, who would be willing to come to us, and whose club would be unable to resist a bid from Spurs?

Even Ledley is not 'pulling his weight' right now. IF he was the player that he once was we would not be seeing the 'confusion' of the last 18 months. We are stuck between a rock and a HARD place....on 4 sides, it appears! There seems to be no solution....players who, up until now, were top class are NOW playing like kids (or perhaps worse). There has to be a solution....but.....we have a man to do that...don't we? Maybe not......? COYS!

Im glad he came out and said that enough is enough, that is refreshingly honest and i respect that 200% good for you Gus.
Gus LOOKS SO pisses off and im glad that is showing through, the players will have got the hairdryer and will all know individually and as a team they cant defend, the point has come now where its defend or we find people who can.

If our players were playing like a top 4 side then they could expect a management team to shield them from criticism in the press.

They are however in the bottom half of the table, after continually defending like rabbits in the headlights since the start of the season. So they've been protected from criticism in the press for long enough as far as I'm concerned.

At the end of the day, if the defenders don't like being openly criticised in the press because of shit defending of set pieces, then they know what to do about it.

I was really pleased to hear Poyet making it clear that such defensive performances are not acceptable. I think that a lot of the players seem to be coasting along, thinking that their Spurs careers are safe. A lot of our defensive players seem to perform at about 60%, but can't be bothered to get organised or concentrate for 90 mins. A good kick up the arse will do them good. What I really like about Juande is that if a player is performing badly, he hauls them off as soon as possible. He doesn't leave it until the 80th minute...

As for the whole "he shouldn't wash dirty laundry in public"... it's not like he's named and shamed players, he's just (rightly) stated that if the current players can't raise their game then new players will be brought it. Which seems a very sensible thing to do.

Good on Gus for saying the things he said. I personally believe that Ramos will have had no problem with him saying the things he said. And I think that Gus and Juande's target wasn't just the players. I think he's sending a message to the board as well. Basically saying 'regardless of what you've said to the media Levy, we need to buy some players'.

Yesterday's result shows that our transfer policy needs serious scrutiny. We need to buy players who will improve what we do on the pitch, not what we do as a business. And not just in defence. What we saw yesterday shows that a team with power and pace can stifle our creativity.

We need rocks in defence and grit in midfield. Defenders who can stay organised and dictate what happens in the penalty area not be dictated to. And midfielders who when they come up against aggressive play can up the ante and get stuck in. Silky football is all well and good and is part of our tradition, but there are times when players need to get down and dirty. At present we don't have many players that fit that requirement when it occurs.

I am expecting big changes Gus. I hope that when the transfer window closes I won't have the same sense of expectation.

Who can we get in this window? Its going to be very difficult to bring in the real quality at this stage in the season that we so badly need. We may well be stuck with the shit we have, which worries the shit out of me.

Ive never been convinced with our back four/five, they make the most basic of fucking errors over and over again far too often. Most of us have played football in our lives, it doesnt matter at what level, a corners a fucking corner, when defending it it`s pretty simple, make sure you get there first and clear the fucker. We surely don`t have the worse set of defenders in the premiership? and player for player we can`t have either. Yet we defend as bad as any team i can think of. What is wrong with them? I know you can`t create a situation on a the training ground and then hope it`s exactly the same in a match but this lot clearly don`t seem to beable to take anything they learn on the training ground away with them anyway. I`d have to sit the silly fuckers down with replays from the goals we conceed and have them watch it over and over again pointing out what the fuck it was they should have done and at what point they should have been doing that, until its through their thick skulls. It`s not that difficult to defend a situation, or it`s certainly not as difficult as this lot make it look like.

Right it's now been just over 17 hours since Poyet's interview and I have seen no big changes.

Damn that lying Uruguayan.
