I hate Saints but am happy they've won here, West Brom were so negative. Horrible team to watch at times.

I never understand this, quite a few on here don’t like them. I think they are a really smart club. They scout well, they recruit well, they’ve developed some excellent players and they are innovative with their coach recruitment, always looking for progressive coaches who are generally more proactive than reactive (Koeman maybe an exception but I heard the other day that they were happy he moved on). The continually lose their best players but re-invent.

They remind me very much how many German clubs seem to operate, much to admired IMO.

I think it's mostly to do with their hate for us. Personally I don't mind them, rather see them do well than many other teams.

Hate seeing crap penalties given a la City game. Contact does not mean it's a foul, why have all the professionals forgotten this? Or is there a rule change I have missed?

Sean Dyche mentioned the elaborate fall on Match of the Day. He said it's a skill in itself, and if he knocked over his son in the garden then he wouldn't fall like that. The pundits all agreed a penalty, but you're right that contact doesn't (or shouldn't) mean a foul - it is a contact sport, after all. Not sure what the keeper is meant to do. He has already pulled his arms back, and it's just momentum (of both) that causes the collision, after Silva knocks the ball away. Neither can stop. I hope it doesn't get to the point where every tackle is a foul - although some games do feel that way.

My hatred is for personal reasons, long story short I live in Southampton and have had to put up with a lot of shit over the years!

As for how they're run, I don't greatly like it either. I mean they are run well, that can't be argued and that's where credit has to be given but I wouldn't like to be a fan of a club who will sell all their players once they reach a certain height. Then it opens up an argument of them being a 'smaller' club and that will always happen to such clubs once they have such players and Saints just happen to produce more than anyone else. Which I think is true to be fair to them, but then it opens up another debate of where they want to be as a club, do they ever want to push forward or just accept that they'll never develop to new heights and just continue to take one step forward then one (or two) steps back?

I think only now their mindset is a bit different following their stance with Van Dijk, even though he will still probably end up leaving but they're sending a message that they won't just let their good players go so simply now. I think it's about time and it's good on them because even if he does go, it's a message to the players that play under them that they can't just simply decide they want to go and then be out the door ASAP, which has been the case in the past. It's telling them that unless they receive silly silly money then they will have to put up or shut up and get on with it. The players before Van Dijk seemed to leave all too easily, and all to the same bloody club.

I understand some might say well what do you expect a club like Saints to do, which is fair enough but they're an ambitious club, there's certainly a different feel to a club like Saints than say, one like Stoke who just want to finish mid table every season. Saints want to achieve something and they believe they should be. I've been around their cocky fans long enough!

But the problem is, good chance that if players don’t go over or emphasise it, they won’t get the penalty.

Just as not all contact is a foul, sometimes even light contact can disrupt a chance or a player’s balance.

That was a pen all day long, and instead of decrying the player for emphasising it, Dyche should be more upset with his keeper for giving it away unnecessarily.

This would all be greatly improved by VAR. Diving, penalties that should be given that aren't etc.

Woolwich should win this easily. It's almost like Koemen picked names out of a hat with his team today.

Eve-Ars, 0-0 after 7 minutes.

The correct move at this point is to take all your assets - cash, deeds to house, loved one's jewellery, wedding rings, your kids' piggy bank, etc. - convert those assets into cash, go to the nearest bookies, and put all of it - every penny - on Arsenal 3 points.
