I think they try to play a good brand of football, are hard-workers, complete underdogs and their achievement last season was incredible. I also did a fun Career Mode with them on FIFA so I know all their players lol.

Fair does. I didn't see anything of them first half of last season when they were good by all accounts, they were awful the only two times I've seen them since. Only saw highlights of the palace game.

Clearly Wagner his a philosophy on subs: have a plan, get them on early. Huddersfield aren't doing much wrong here, but he made 2 subs on 68 and 70. Decisiveness on subs like this is good.

That's much better than aimlessly hoofing the ball forwards in the misguided belief that "forwards" always means "more entertaining".

The lack of quality in this game is because neither of these teams can keep any meaningful possession, the balls like a hot potato for both teams.

There is a huge gulf in talent for both squads that is for sure. Watching the playoff game i remember thinking that Huddersfield would need to buy at least 8 players to have the talent to compete against the teams in the PL.

But i will say this, Huddersfield may be lacking in talent but at least they are trying to play some form of football.

The past few years we have had Middlesbrough, Norwich, Hull, Cardiff, Leiscester (not to mention Villa, Fulham,QPR, Burnley) who were all more than happy to sit back and do fuck all. Hell, last year Karanka at Middlesbrough seemed like he would have been happy to put 9 players across the goal mouth.

It's nice to see a smaller team, new to the league, that is pressing, charging after everything and trying to play something other than dire bus parked misery that most of the smaller new arrivals seem happy to play.

Been impressed with Huddersfield's intensity and work rate. Have afforded Newcastle very little time and space when they get to the halfway line, they've competed and scrapped for every 2nd ball etc. If they can keep that up all season then a lot of the teams in the league will find them very difficult to play against.

I like that Huddersfield have some clear coached, collective ethos, and they must be the most under-resourced club to gain promotion to the PL because of that (Brentford under Warnock two years ago played much better football though and were very unlucky) but at this stage, that's about the best I can say about them. In terms of football quality this has been Championship quality at best. But I guess that's hardly surprising to be fair.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Southampton and Swansea, both doing very well immediately after promotion and Swansea untroubled before last season, came up and stayed up trying to play football the right way. Boro last season were the absolute worst side to watch that I can remember in the PL.

That's why I think Huddersfield have a very good chance. Teams with an ethos that try to play decent football will often have a chance as long as they're not gung-ho like Blackpool were.

Don't have much sympathy for Benitez. He's got a big squad with some options there to work with. He's one of those managers though who always needs more money to spend, and since the start of the summer has been mouthing off about it. I firmly believe if you go into a season being so negative, then that is going to lead to bad performances from the team. Reminds me of Moyes last season, where he had basically admitted defeat before a ball had been kicked.

Don't want to over-egg it, but that was little short of a disaster for Newcastle today. Both teams showed limited technical ability, but at least Huddersfield's players & fans were buoyant & up for it all day. Seems a really united set-up, which gives you a chance.

But that only highlights Newcastle's problems. Low energy, no seeming game-plan, the lack of coherence in their play, the apparent disunity that just seems to follow them around like a cloud. They simply didn't look like a team today. Very, very bad signs.

There is a glaring lack of quality in Huddersfield's line-up. There is no debating that. Watching them last year i thought they were lacking talent in the Championship.

I imagine it must be rough for a team like Huddersfield coming up into the PL. They needed to add players who were PL capable (you could argue they needed to add players who were Championship capable) but in this market it is going to be brutal. They have spent less on all their summer transfers combined than we spent on just Sanchez and they very clearly would benefit from buying more players but this is now a market where Johnny Evans is worth £25m, Tom Cleverly is worth £9m and a Championship striker in Chris Wood is going to end up costing £15m+.

With the lack of talent/quality i think it would have been almost forgiven if they lined up each week and just parked the bus (similar to Hull/Boro last season) and hoped to scrape enough points to last another year. But it looks like they are going to try and play something resembling football, not sure it will be enough to keep them up but at least it looks like they will try to go down playing something a bit more adventurous than some of the other small fish. For that i give them a fair amount of credit and am happy to see it.

Love their stadium still looks great

I will say I really, really don't like the tunnel having glass where "fans" can snap pics and oogle them for a gazillion quid. I get that that basically happens with any good seats in the stadium, but it's just a little different. If I was a player I'd feel like it'd detract from the experience of walking out of the tunnel. Call me cynical or old fashioned, would much rather it wasn't like that.
