Fuck me, we only need to imagine someone playing for us for them to get injured now. Hope none of you have been watching Dragusin or Todibo highlights reels these last few days....

Refs are just shit/fallible/human/whatever. Something we all used to accept, save for the usual bellyaching the day/night of a loss and then move on from.

Now though, their shitness is inexcusable due to muh VAR.

It's getting tedious. They're just shit guys. They're trying to keep up with top level athletes who no longer drink and smoke more than they do, 90% of whom are trying to cheat every second of the game for whatever edge/advantage they can and it's an impossible job to get right. Especially now instead of Alan Hansen making a 5 second quip on MOTD afterwards their every decision gets its own call-in show on radio for everyone to dissect for the 3 or 4 days after the game.

Either have everything done by VAR or bin entirely save for goal line tech.

Definitely contact on the bottom of the boot and that would make you trip.

But this reminds me of the penalty that was given last season against us vs Southampton where their player got to the ball just before our player was about to clear it. I don’t think either are penaltys but that might be because of my Spurs tinted glasses.

There was contact which is why it wasn't overturned but there wasn't enough to throw yourself down clutching an ankle like you've snapped your achilles. I had the same thought. Neither should be pens

Didn’t realise Steve McLaren was back working at United, makes sense though, Ten Hag is Dutch and Steve McLaren is as well according to his interviews from his time working there.

Yeah I think a penalty is such a big decision that the foul or handball should be blatant. Lo Celso and Kulu gave us great examples of a correct penalty decision, but something like this where the Villa player is looking for the penalty and there is no intent from the Burnley player to foul, it should not be a penalty.

They seemed to have fixed it when it comes to handballs but now they need to take a look at the types of fouls that can justify a penalty.

I'd genuinely try to change the rule so only DOGSO incidents are penalties. Handballs unless they're literally stopping a goal, minor infringements on players nowhere near the goal, should be indirect free kicks.
Yeah, Whatever happened to the good old indirect free kick, weren’t that for handballs on the goal line etc etc etc

I continuously say this but they need to change what is and isnt a penalty.

Slight contact resulting in players flinging themselves down should not be a penalty.

A player can be inside the penalty area with almost zero chance of scoring in that position and be lightly touched resulting in a great chance to score.

That just is not in the spirit of the game
Didnt see this before. Perfectly said

Dunno about corruption, the decisions are often too bizarre and random and so suggest incompetence more than anything else.

But it's certainly strange how large the proportion of refs from the north/midlands is. Basically all of them.

Didnt Howard Webb come out and say he gave decisions Leicester's way as he wanted them to win the title? Im not saying every decision is corrupt but when it favours one team continously it does smell a bit.
