if the strategy by forest was to put pressure on so that 50-50 calls went their way.....well, that went well didn't it

this will unlikely be a popular suggestion - but I'd give managers 1 challenge per game...like NFL...throw a red flag down...to refer something to the var team* - they'd have to do it within 30 seconds of the incident or something like that

Actually, might be hilarious, as in some managers will be terrible at using it - others might be super eagle eyed. I would find it more legit and more entertaining that having all the control given to the half wits in the caravan in stockley park

*can see one problem straight away, if var team say nothing to see, and manager throws red flag, says, oh yes there is, var team unlikely to change their decision...even if they are in the wrong.....unless the red flag, meant the it was the ref who had to go see the video and assess their call...

It’s perfectly normal to play Wednesday and Saturday. Having said that given the FA knew City would be in Europe that week I don’t see why their game wasn’t the Sunday game. It wouldn’t have disadvantaged any of the other SemiFinalists.

BBC had first pick and would've chosen City v Chelsea for Sat evening as viewing figures generally higher than Sunday.
Also with the Marathon on, the Met Police may have had a say. Pretty sure they'd see Cov v Man U as a 'lighter' fixture, albeit with same capacity.

Not unpopular at all - I think when VAR was first mooted this is how many people (but by no means a majority) expected it to be implemented. Almost every other sport has a challenge system to trigger video reviews and this is the best means of determining whether or not an error is clear and obvious (eg did everyone else see it differently from the ref!). Rugby is the other exception and the TMO works really well in rugby (imo) so no idea why football - and the PGMOL especially - make such a horlicks of it.

The first and third Forest penalties have been given many times this year. Iirc we've seen similar levels of contact on Liverpool and Man UTD players rewarded with penalties this season.

The hand ball one im not a fan of because I think it travels very quickly at Young. Then again, Coventry got one yesterday for something similar so it should be given for continuity's sake.

I don't think any of the Forrest appeals were nailed on pens. 1st one no chance, 2nd would have been very unlucky to be given, 3rd is the only close one but even then it's not clear and obvious by any means.

Then again this is coming from a Spurs fan, so I wouldn't expect us to get any of those.

The third one is clear and obvious, the ref made a gesture that young got the ball which he clearly didn’t, so regardless of whether it should’ve been a pen or not the ref has seen it incorrectly so should be sent to the monitor to review.

This is exactly it. I don’t think all of them were clear & obvious errors at all. A Liverpool esque statement probably would have been better as we’ve seen that result in a club getting the rub of the green going forward. But that isn’t what Forest did. They went a step or 5 further & accused the PGMOL of corruption & pretty much outright match fixing. They should be punished for that with a point deduction simply to deter more clubs from doing it. They’ve opened Pandora’s Box with that & the PL can’t let it slide if they want to close that box back up

The problem Forest have is that, of all the relegation candidates, they are by far the most unlikeable. I had no preference before but I hope they go down.

If the VAR/refs were biased at the weekend then maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with hiring Clattenburg as a consultant and putting a target on your own backs.

The Forest player was solely concentrating on getting control of the ball and getting a shot away.
Young got caught wrong side and made a desperate lunge. If he got the ball, it’s because he went through the man.
It is stonewall and every ex-player and ex-ref on tv since has said the same.
