An interesting story here saying how the Premier League are considering banning loans between top-flight clubs.

Call it the Man City effect, but they apparently have a squad of over 35 players now. What will they do with them all on Tuesday?

In a (slightly) related piece, I read how Sheik Whats-his Name has invested about 500mil of his own money in the last year. When do the new rules about being a sustainable club come in. Isn't there something where clubs can only spend what they bring in via ticket revenue, Tv money and player transferes?

Anyway, thoughts..?

This is a good rule because of Man City, but it will stink for smaller clubs who can benefit from youth from bigger clubs to aid them. But better to stop City than give Bolton Wilkshire for a season.

I believe the rules start next year and will include current deals that have multi-year components. I'm not willing to scour Bluemoon, but I don't believe that City have paid outright for all of their signings. And the rules seem to have safeguards against loopholes, such as odd transactions to bulk up revenue. For once Platini's disgust with England will be beneficial as he will want to take City down bad. It's just too bad he can't do it to the bindippers, who caused his hatred.

Hopefully someone will have better details for us.

I believe the rules are from the point they're put in and not retroactive, so I believe City would still be ok for the players they have already brought in. However, I think new players would (of course) want wages on par with other top performers and that would seemingly put them over the top. I'm pretty sure this is correct, though I'm not sure and would welcome any other well-informed comment stating otherwise.

As far as loans go, I think there should be an age limit, say 23?, put on loanees, to ensure weaker teams can get the most benefit yet parent clubs still have to be responsible regarding the number and postion of players they bring in.

I think the loan system needs to be reviewed comprehensively. The whole Bellamy loan looks very dodgy when you consider Cardiff can't be paying very much of his wages at all.

But loans between teams in the same league is always going to cause issues and I think banning them (apart from maybe players under 21) will stop clubs buying stupid numbers of players and then farming them out.

Fuck that for a lark, it'll completely screw up my tactic of getting talented youngsters from abroad on FM, then sending them out on loan to clubs with excellent youth facilities, until they reach an actual ability of 75%, when I sell them on for £15m+ :bang:

Platini needs to wind his neck in. Shitty will come unstuck all by themselves.
