Ha i was joking mate.

I think IF we sign a few players and keep a number of current decent ones we will still be up there or there abouts but we need:
a GK (Foster)
a CB(Ventgthorn)
a RM/LM to cover Lennon/Bale (Hoillet/Frei)
a ST x2( re-sign Ade and sign Damiao/Remy/Ba etc)

If we do that and keep Bale,Modric etc we'll have a very very strong side.

But I'm not sure we can sign those players without the money and attraction of the CL and I also think Modric will 100% leave and Bale and VDV may also.

Realistically Man.City/Man.U will be way too strong as will Chelsea with the signings they've made.
Liverpool will be better under Rogers but don't think they'll trouble us next year,Newcastle should also not perform quite so well with the added games from the Europa league. Arsenal will probably perform similar to what they have this season but that depends on if RVP stays.

Will be tough again next year, if we'd got CL and Chelsea hadn't and we'd made some big signings and kept big names here I think we could have had a slight shot at the title now I think 5th/6th is realisitc... shame.

But who knows.

What would it take to win the title? I can't see a simple change of manager achieving that, regardless of which manager it was. I doubt even God could win us the league, if he was in charge. The simple truth is, is that we now compete for 3/4th. That would only change if we got an owner in who was willing to compete with Chelsea, Man U & City.

it is a little disheartening when you see the team in 6th have just spent(or are about to) £80m and we've only just entered june.

We were a cert for 3rd, last season...until 'Arry threw it away (in several ways, and none of them football related!). Sadly, he may take us to 3rd, at best, but no higher (which will do me, for a start!) but we need to consider a change (sadly, as I say) IF we truly want EPL success? That said, a player of 2, added to our current (pre Euro 2012) can take us to where we want to go? We seem to still do the 'Spurs' thing, day in day out....dropping 'easy' points...to lower opposition....and failing to capitalise on the teams alongside us, in the Title run-in? Small 'tweeks' can make big rewards more possible....but....that's another days chewing! COYS!

We should be getting Dawson and Huddlestone back, to kick off with. Plus this squad has another year of playing together as they mature in to a top team capable of a sustained title challenge, if supplemented with additional star quality support.

We'll only get 3 points from the first 8 games

If we don't improve the squad drastically, apart from getting maybe a couple extra draws, I really can't see the results being any different than this.

Knee jerk reaction, not really, where do you honestly see us getting points?

How is this not a knee-jerk reaction?
The fixture list hasn't even been drawn-up yet.
Although we can speculate on who might be sold (with emphasis on our star players), none has been sold yet.
Although we can only speculate on who will be brought in, one deal is almost complete and that is the very highly rated Jan Vertonghen, who will, hopefully, improve us in an area we need improving.

These are the only facts we have, so how can you declare that we will only get 3 points from the first eight games - and we are talking, here, about the team that should haave finished 3rd in the league - and you say this isn't knee-jerk?

Sp, I can only assume he was taking the piss. I don't think he was being serious.

The thought did cross my mind...but he didn't leaveany hints that he was.
In which case it just seemed like a bit of a mental, hysterical post - and there have been a few, claiming we are in terminal decline because, against all the odds, and against the dictates of justice (IMHO) we are missing out on the CL.

Okay, Chinaman, me ol' China...if you were joking, apologies for jumping on it...but that is where use of smilies helps folk tell when you are joking.

so as it stands our rivals have strengthened in some way.

ManU: Just Signed Kagawa
Chelsea: Signed Marin, Hazard & Possibly Hulk
Arseanal: Signed Podolski
Liverpool: Signed a great up and coming manager

I really do hope were not playing catch-up and get our deals sorted soon, why this vertonghen deal has taken this long i do not know, it doesn't bode well for the rest of our 'potential' transfers. Im still keeping the faith and hopefully we can get harrys future sorted out soon as well as the vertonghen deal.

I really do think Arsenal will lose RVP this summer and they're there for the taking again IMO even if they do strengthen considerably, it won't offset the loss of RVP completely.

Lets just hope that Rodgers methods at Liverpool take time to get going, and we start fast again.

I have serious doubts that Podolski will be better in our league than Chamakh was. I was petrified at the idea of us signing him. If they lose RVP (likely) and repalce him with Podolski, I think they will be considerably weakened in the one area that was keeping them afloat last season. If we ship Baasong and Nelsen out, and also stop relying on Ledley, and bring in Vertonghen, I think we will be considerably strengthened in one of the positions we really need some stability in.

Yeah totally agree SP.

I think Chelsea will be back in the top three next season. If Arse lose RVP I think we should be in a very strong position for finishing fourth next season again...providing Le Arse don't win the dam thing  could you imagine, finishing fourth two aeasons running and your two biggest rivals winning it

Said the same thing last summer when they lost Fabregas and Nasri.

They'll just buy Giroud or someone. Then someone else will step up to become a world beater. Plus they have Wilshere coming back. And I think they'll keep RVP anyway.

They had other options for midfield even though Fabregas in particular was a big loss....they don't for RVP and there not getting anybody in of that quality up top.

Yeah, but who is this Pololsko fella? Or is that a plurality of Poloski's? I really should read throught my comments before posting

Yeah, sadly I could see it happening to us two years running - after the CL final this year I have begun to take the curse of WHL damned seriously.

Boris - the point about RVP/Podolski is that it has only been the goals from RVP that has prevented the Goons from having a mediocre season. I can't see Podolski covering scoring enough goals to come even close to that, so, unless the midfielders you mention are going to chip in with an extra 10 goals each on top of what they normally score, it won't make up the shortfall. Hence, they could struggle if they lose RVP and replace him with Podolski.
We don't know what other transfer business we will do, but, this is what we know as seeming likely - so, if they weaken in the one area they could really do with strengthening in, and we strengthen and stability (Vetonghen) in one of the areas we need to strengthen and add stability in, we will be in an improved position viz them.

I think City will dominate more than last season. Arsenal goes down abit but they have the capacity to attract so can't count them out. Chelsea should get going around X'mas. Liverpool isn't there yet; they don't even pose a credible threat to us. I think this would be a easier year for us than last if we keep our squad.

Forget what other clubs are doing. We need to get our business done early in the window, get settled and then have another crack at winning the thing. With all the shit that went wrong this year it's easy to forget some of the performances the team put in... We just need to build on the positives.

Sorry - I prefer deadpan humour, and Smilies kind of spoils deadpan...

This is a quote of a fairly famous post (although not famous enough it seems) last year after two games. I was trying to mock those knocking our chances next season by demonstrating that the same idiotic predictions were made last year (before arguably our most comfortable top 4 finish for many years).

I would have replied earlier but my daughter was born on Sunday night and I've been with my wife in hospital since!
