Estimated upshot: from 2016-17 season, BOTTOM club in PL will get c. £99 million prize money. And top club will get £156 MILLION

Especially amazing when you consider this:

Last season, Atlético Madrid (£31.5m) & Bayern Münich (£27.4m) together earned the same TV revenue as West Brom (£58.5m) who finished 17th...

and now the 17th team will actually make what another £10m...

I like Friday night games. Be interesting to see whether they take an even-handed Ligue 1 approach, where they all seem to get a turn on Fridays and you get some high profile games...or the la Liga approach, where they shove their most un-glamorous fixtures in that spot!

That could be the problem. Who's going to watch Stoke v West Brom on a Friday night?

Interestingly in the announcement Scudamore put some pressure on the clubs to lower ticket prices to keep the stadia full. Something's got to be done, so this extra money doesn't just all go to the players and agents.

Just means player transfer fees will be through the roof this summer.
Will have more impact on wages and it's no surprise now there wasn't much movement player wise in January when clubs will shortly have much more money to spend on wages.

Ings, Sterling and Berahino agents will be licking their lips

At some stage that will go really bad for football. Maybe not this century but it will come. It is getting ridicoulos. A solid U21 player is going to get paid 50k pw and won't even make it in the first team squad.

And half of the world hasn't got enough food...

mad world.

Absolutely pathetic, I for one hope this will finally be the bubble that bursts.
Great point though about lowering ticket prices, if clubs don't then I just hope supporters finally wake up and smell the coffee...

Good for TV , crap if you are going to the game
I dunno. I prefer it - finishing work for the week, go and have some beers with your mates and then on to the game. Better than Sunday lunchtimes, when you're either young and hungover or old and want to spend time with your kids.

Obviously difficult for away fans though, granted.

Whatever you say about the premier league they get an amazing amount of money for their games. They are fabulous at it.

Is there actually any point busting a gut to get into the champions league now. All the money is already pumping into our domestic game.

Once the new foreign tv deal comes in there will be even more money available. I think I saw somewhere that at the moment China only pays £22 million for their rights. Surely that's a massive market to rinse?!?!

As an arm chair supporter I'm happy with a Friday night game but can see it not being great for away fans

Did I read that overseas contracts have yet to be negotiated?

What amazes me is that here in the USA we are able to watch every PL game live at no cost - so long as your cable or satellite company offers NBC Sports Extra in their viewing package, and I believe most do. We are very spoiled here after years of watching dodgy streams or paying a subscription to watch someone's pirated signal, usually from the Middle East.

I wonder how much bt and sky will up their prices, and how many of their customers will stand the increase.

Can see how it'll work well for some but for me and presumably many others it'd be a case of finish work at 5, get home for 6, WHL for 7, have one or two beers before the game, watch the game during which I can't drink and then it's 10pm. Would take the best part of an hour to get to somewhere decent meaning I might as well go home at that time. Friday night ruined (or at least dominated by going to the game).

I'm a little bit sad as Rugby League has its Friday night fixtures and whilst the seasons overlap it'll have football competing with it even more. I know not much of a bother to most of you on here, but my 10 years up in Leeds now has got me into it, and it's a fantastic sport I highly recommend it! Also it's not just rugby but aren't the football league matches on a Friday? So the PL will be stealing away from the lower divisions too.

Also with regards to subscriptions, rather than a blanket subscription uplift I'm hoping they just have a dedicated channel for football and you can get a separate sky sports and sky sports football subscription and I'll happily pay to keep watching F1, rugby and cricket and just pop down the pub for the odd football match.

I'd wager we will see the first £100m player in the prem this summer. Only question is who will it be? Messi? Bale? Ronaldo? Pogba?

Scary.

Im not so sure, people think that this will affect transfers but imo it wont. I think it will affect wages more and they will go up

Transfer fees give clubs far too much power and the agents wouldn't want that so they will be running down deals more

Also to suggest £100m is nearly double the current record.

Plus look at the record transfers and the PL is shocking:
1. Di Maria - £60m
2. Torres - £50m
3. Tevez - £48m
4. Ozil - £42m
5. Aguerro - £38m
6. Mata - £37m
7. Carroll - £35m
8. Sanchez - £35m
9. Fernandinho - £34m
10. Robinho - £32.5m

Despite all the money available at the moment clubs haven't spent that much and have spent more on their overall squads.

Also bar Aguerro and atm Sanchez, most of those signings have been poor(ignoring Fernandinho and Di Maria as they can justify the fee yet)

Also the Euro is getting weaker so to spend £100m on someone you are looking at €135m which is 35% higher than the bale transfer and nearly double the Di Maria transfer(€75m)
