So we know its happenned in serie A and it obviously happens many times in each prem season. The exact mechanism with which the ref's are paid off is just speculation but we can say for sure that its there. The elite clubs pay protection money to the FA who probably take care of the ref. I don't believe it could take place without the FA being complicit.

It's becoming more aparent isn't it, unfortunately. I just long for the day when the 16 other premiership chairmen get together and make a stand by strining there clubs.

why don't we use technology more, i don't get it...refs can say they'll make mistakes because they're human, but why not try your best to get it right by using what's available

^ I agree if it's good enough for rugby why not football. It would make the match much fairer and that way the big four couldn't get their way through oscar-winning dives

Its becoming increasingly obvious why they don't want technology! Lets not forget, it wasn't just the pen today - it was every small decision thereafter to maintain manu pressure - and the ref didint need to hesitate to give the goal over the line did he.

We folded at the total injustice of it all and people will now forget already because we lost 5-2. I love spurs but i'm going to ignore the premiership from now on.

1st and 4th goals were clearly paid for after a halftime reminder. 4th goal "clearly" over the line according to the telly commentator, but Mendes' goal a couple years back they "couldn't see clearly" :duh:

Bogus on its face - premiership is rotten...

Juventus cried NO WAY and IT ISN'T TRUE right up until the taped discussons were released. This has become a farce...

To reiterate - 1st goal a joke (penallty? really?) 4th goal did not cross line, but referee didn't hesitate to award bogus goal.

To add -- bullshit included, gomes and jenas never rebounded to attempt a come back. JJ invisible and Gomes let one in at the near post as soon as his confidence wasn't 100%

I'm spewing bile and angst. We're still in it for 7th and I'm confident Spurs can make that 7th spot. But, the premiership is rotten for a select few and in order to build for the future I identify the 2 biggest failures needing replacement in the top 11. Doesn't mean they need to be sold, just means the need to be replaced in the starting 11.

Attack me if you want DC boy, but JJ isn't doing Spurs any favours... :violin:

COYS!!!

It's not in the best interest of the F.A. or the big 4 clubs to bring it in because then the whole world would see what a bunch of ******* slimy back-handed bung ***** that they really are. :bang:

Don't you think it was embarrassing that Portsmouth & Cardiff got to the cup final last year?
It showed the F.A. in a bad light that the big 4 couldn't be bothered to take part in it seriously, they peddle the "romance of the f.a. cup" but don't wan't anyone other than those 4 to really win it.

And if they did bring technology in to give correct decisions then i'll bare my arse on here

Daylight robbery

Football died a little bit today. It's all fucking corrupt and the biggest clubs are always the winners.

when we lost CC final, i opend smilar thread and I'm getting slated for it, when it was clear that O'Shea deserved to be sent off, which could change the whole game for us ( for people said we also benfite from King-Ronaldo situation )

today, was another big decision vs Man Utd, Hoddle moaned about one in 2002 ( i think ) , then Santini, then Jol about Mendes and also penalty decision not awarded in last OT visit in league game, then today.

but if you asked me today, we should blame ourselves today even if the penalty was harsh, we were 2-1 up and we should react better, Redknapp by particular needed to react better because Corluka def. was average, JJ wasn't good as well. If i'm wrong, ok, slate me.. but i said it in the past, I like Harry but it is alway 11 vs 14, we don't use subs, other teams do, we conceded 5 goals and the first subs in 86', it's shocking. Yes the starting XI are far better and winning team, but you need to refesh the team, it isn't the first time we are playing worse than 2st half.

today, should be mentality lesson for the lads who to react after conceding goals ( as they do vs Blackburn ) and lesson for Redknapp to use subs as well. it was harsh lesson to lose 2-5 and needed pts for UEFA cup place, but much needed to prevent that happen next season. Redknapp is very experienced manager but he still needs time to learn the team.

I think to certain extent your right the premier league is rotten. I think the Fa and Premier league certainly brown nose Man utd, Liverpool and Chelsea and maybe to certain extent but not so much as those 3 Ars*al. I believe this is because certainly in Man utd and Liverpools case they are the ones who bring in the big money tv deals from abroad places like asia were there fans are notorious glory hunters. I believe the FA & premier league are worried that if these 3 clubs become unsuccessful they will lose there mega bucks tv deals. And people like Richard scudurmore will lose his big fat pay check and bonus he picks up every year. So they give Man utd, Liverpool, Chelsea a helping hand like today. Where we habe the supposed best referee in the country who I cant remember having to many shocking games this season who suddenly has an off day when Man utd are 2-0 down and struggling to create anything. So what does he do not book Ronaldo for blatant foul on Lennon the awards a none penalty to help utd back into the game and and give them all the momentum they need to kick on and for final 35 min. Then Fa want to make sure Man utd Chelsea, Liverpool are always in champions league, challenging for titles , Fa cups & Carling cups. Its a sad state of affairs and one that doesn't look like changing anytime soon. It could be a case though that if football carries on this way for next four or five years its going to become very boring as there will be no point in clubs like ourselves, Villa & Everton competing as all we are ever going to be competing for is fifth place and the odd cup every other year when the top 3 or 4 dont feel like competing in it and send out there kids or reserve teams.

Anyone see the handball by Bendtner in front of the ref in the first half? How he didnt give a pen is beyond me.

It's all about money, as long as the sky "big four" generate obscene amounts of cash, the prem will always look to protect them.

The 4th goal was clearly over the line tho. :bang:

Yes it was clearly but like most of us you proberly know that because you watched the replay and in slow motion so how the hell did Webb see it :bang:

Yeah I saw that today and the ref was alot closer to Ben today than the ref was to Gomes and the 4th goal yesterday.

I always here fans say this about the FA & PL protecting the top 4 and thought it was sour grapes, because we have had a few go our way, in the same game yesterday Palacious had a 2 foot tackle on Ron that I thought warranted a card (possibly even red) and nothing happened but after the game today I'm starting to see it a bit more

this is interesting , pinched from TLW/a liverpool site ;

Yesterday's incidents got me reminiscing and i remembered this story from my past. When i was at college in the early half of the 90s, I had the (mis)fortune to be on the same course and live in the same building with the daughter of Mr Philip Don, who was then the highest profile Premier League referee. Anyway, Miss Don used to receive hand-written birthday cards, gifts and christmas presents from a certain Mr Alex Ferguson. She also used to get free tickets for the Director's box at Old Trafford whenever she wanted them (she was thus a very popular lady), and indeed was a guest at the 1994 FA Cup Final (which I don't think Don refereed which made it even more curious). Don's son, a promising young international triathlete, apparently used to travel during the summer holidays up to Old Trafford to train and receive physio (even though the family lived in North London). It was very revealing for how there was a culture of perks in Premier League football - one targeting the family members rather than directly the ref himself. I'm not for a moment suggesting any impropriety by Philip Don (as if...), but you do have to ask questions about the nature of the relationship, especially in an age before full-time referees (Don was a school teacher, I seem to recall). At the very least, this story shows the closeness between referees and the Manchester United hierarchy that was a feature of the 1990s and, i have no doubt, still goes on today
