Put a smile on Dawson's face

Did anyone see how chuffed Michael Dawson looked when the crowd started singing "there's only one Michael Dawson" last night?
He gave the thumbs up and couldn't stop a boyish, sweet smile escaping.

Show him the love, fellas! He's been immense this season and we have to realise how lucky we are that someone of his quality is our '3rd choice' centre back on paper behind King and Woodgate.
I've regularly criticized him cos he seemed to make a fair few mistakes (and he still pisses me off at times when he lumps it forward and gives away possession, although less so these days) but he's upped his game, his commitment level and work rate are as high as ever and he seems a great fella who loves the Spurs.

Long may it continue and lets show him the love, it seems he appreciates being appreciated!

he's one of the players who always/usually applauds our away following at the end.

i love him, i've started that chant at matches before. his long balls have become more aimed than plain hoofs. he still goes long too much.

He's a star for us at the moment.

Watching an interview with him the other day he actually mentioned his long passes out of defence and said something along the lines of, 'Well, I know I get criticised when they don't come off, but I'll keep trying'. So don't expect him to drop that style of play anytime soon! A couple of late have actually led to attempts on goal, so maybe he is getting slightly better with them.

I must admit to a sharp intake of breath last night when he was trying out some skills (?) as the last man when he had a Fulham player right on his shoulder, but he got out away with it, thank god.

He's another one who was talked about leaving a year or so ago, but I never thought we'd let him go, he's far too good a player to be getting rid of and like you say, as an almost permanent fixture, whilst being considered 3rd choice, we ain't gonna get any better. Add his personality, guts and his never-say-die attitude for us and we've got a Tottenham 'lifer' in the making there.

But I'm with you all the way, I freakin' love Michael Dawson.

All in front of Capello aswell chaps. Let's keep it up. As stated already, he's had a fantastic year. Probably the most consistant, performance-wise of all of Englands options at centre half.

How the hell Upson got picked ahead of him is a complete shocker.

Because as much as I love Daws, Upson is a better player.

In what universe? Because it's certainly not this one.

Upson and Green, as part of one of the leagues worst defences, are England regulars, while Dawson, as part of the leagues 4th best defence (one which has not managed a clean sheet without Dawson) gets overlooked constantly.

A couple of late have actually led to attempts on goal, so maybe he is getting slightly better with them.

Recently he has linked up well with Bale with his long passes. Normally I get annoyed when I see it get hoofed forward but it has allowed Bale to get behind the full back a few times.

Upson has a better reputation certainly, but over the past 12 months Daws has been a much better defender. If Upson at his best were of the calibre of a Rio Ferdinand or John Terry then you could, maybe, wheel out the old, 'form is temporary, class is permanent' line, but as Upson is not one of those top top defenders, he is only entitled to be judged on his performances in the past season - a season in which he's been so shit that many Spammers fans are reserving their biggest criticisms for him.

Daws should be involved with England, but he isn't. Only Capello knows why, because I haven't heard a decent constructive argument on the subject from any fan of any club, and the more my non-Spurs supporting mates watch him the more they agree that he should be going to the World Cup.

There's only 1 Michael Dawson, 1 Michael Dawson, there's only 1 Michael Dawson....

He still needs confidence in who is playing alongside him and for me Bassong has been ideal in that role as the regular pairing this season.

The other factor for me, is that Gomes has calmed down and is beginning to look like an English Premiership keeper with his matchplay decisions. That alone would inspire confirdence in the players ahed of him.

He is our vocal captain. King leads by example, but Dawson gets us fired up. He is the one who gets is psyched up in the huddle before a game. Definitely one of our most important players now. He has learnt so much from King I think, and he's ready to be a true leader now. I don't think he would have partnered a young player like Bassong so well a few years ago, but now he is doing a great job alongside Bassong.

His contract extension was well deserved.

Completely agree Tommo and BBLG. I'm sorry but this year there is no arguement to favour Upson over Daws. Upson has been shocking and Dawson has been top class for us.

No doubt he should be in there. He's played at least as well as Lescott and better than Upson. Upson has to take the most criticism for Spam's defending. He's supposed to be the wise old head

Without turning this into an England thread I really, honestly in a totally unbiased way think they should take Hudd along. We have plenty of tacklers like Barry to bring on to close out a game but Hudd gives something different. He can come on and slow the tempo to our rhythm, not panick and spread the play around in a controlled way. Anyway...
