The board didn't exactly cover themselves in glory in that era, Bill Nicholson ended up scouting at West Ham, Jimmy Greaves was cast out, as was big Big Pat. People complain that modern players have no loyalties, the club has been no better over the years, the fans are the only constant.

he could pick it out the air with 1 hand, land and still hold it. he got me on the end real of MotD when they used one of his fabulous 1 handed diving saves and as he landed they froze the frame (my claim to fame)

Yes I remember seeing one or two of those and it just shows how strong he was, as well as big!

Pat was adored by our fans even when he joined the scum...that's how much he was loved.
I was very young but recall everytime he palyed against us for the scum we sang his name louder they did .

One of my relatives used to cut his hair in Hoddesdon....when he left us Pat cried in the salon...disgrace the way we treated him.

I remember seeing Jennings back in 1963 in the so-called Little World Cup. Northern Ireland reached the final where they lost 4-0 to England but Jennings was very much the star of the tournament. Some of the England group games were at the Lane and I went to watch as the England team included 'Chopper' Harris who I had been at school with. At that stage Jennings was still with Newry Town but he moved to Watford at the end of the tournament.

Two years later we signed him from Watford. I remember his debut at the Lane. IIRC it was against Sheffield United. Early on in the game there was a cross from the right and Jennings just plucked it out of the air one-handed. Amazing confidence in one so young on his debut.

He was just an amazing goalkeeper. When people talk about the greatest goalkeepers of all time, they generally include players like Swift, Yashin and Banks. I never saw Swift and Lev Yashin was past his best by the time of the 66 World Cup. I saw Banks many times but I think that Jennings was at least his equal. I've never seen a better keeper than Pat. It was a pleasure to watch him play for Spurs.
