Think we should all want Liverpool fourth. This way it ensures only 4 english teams in CL rather then 5 IF Liverpool do the unthinkable

And West Brom.......the stench of Pulis lingers on with those clubs............goodbye, good riddance and f@#k off
True dat. Although Wolves is going to be a very difficult away game next year, they've got lots of pace on the counter. Cardiff is never an easy away game too. And if Fulham go up, another London derby is never wanted. So, strikes and gutters always.

What is very satisfying for me is that Talksport ran every sports news report yesterday leading up to the games that Chelsea could catch Tottenham in the race for 4th if they beat Huddersfield and we lost to Newcastle.

Not once did they say if we won we would go 3rd.

Tbf not many of us did either

If Wolves and Cardiff are as difficult for everyone though that's not an issue. West Brom we seemed uniquely talented at dropping points to.

Still no mention on any media outlet I've heard or seen about the fact we went above Liverpool.
Denial I think.
BBC this morning said we confirmed top four no mention of us going third either, I don't think it's necessarily bias or an agenda on most outlets more a mindset, they still see us as the outsiders every season to the extent that if you asked them I'd suspect that eighty percent of them wound think Liverpool generally finish above us in the league and suppose that our third place is temporary.
Anyway I am just happy that my positive attitude during this last month has been borne out, I never believed Chelsea could win all their last games and there was absolutely no way Newcastle would beat us and absolutely no way we wouldn't get a win in one of our last two games, we will beat Leicester too so if people will forgive me I'd just like to I told you so!:)
Champions League - Job done against a background of tough competition and playing at Wembley reflected in the predictions of the pundits not one of whom, as I recall, said we'd achieve it at the start of the season.

I actually want Chelski to finish 4th. Can’t believe I’m saying that lol

I don't. can't stand chelsea. I also feel chelsea would be more of a pain in the ass for us when it comes to competition for players if they got in. Liverpool seems like a more complete team than chelsea atm – chelsea is probably going to try splash some cash and get rid of some deadwood – rather they don't have cl when they do.

Can't understand why anyone would want Liverpool in CL over Chelsea. Not having CL football has a much bigger impact on Liverpool than Chelsea.

Seems like Chelsea are in bigger need of an overhaul of the squad. Maybe they wont attract the same quality without cl - even though they have cash ofc.. Liverpool have their core of players and they have already got the likes of Keita. Don't think they need to buy that much? But i have a bias: one of mye best mates and former roommate are Chelsea. I used to get so much stick from him when we did bad, so this taste extra good for me.

Rewind to the battle of the bridge when those **** suddenly turned up and the wild scenes on and off the pitch when they fucked us up.

Hate Chelsea, everything about them. Hazard, Fibreglass, Giroud... all of them and their **** fans.

My mates laugh at how much I hate Liverpool, and even I would go against this. Chelsea have been in decline for a while, and looks like they'll have major upheval in the summer both in manager and playing squad (hopefully Hazard and Courtois go now). Whilst they have a lot of money they will be further down the queue for signings without CL. EL will hamper their preparations during the season too, even if they rotate more. Liverpool look pretty set going forward and will still get Keita and possibly Fekir without CL, plus they have the very real possibility of winning the damn thing this season anyway! (Neither team would have struggled as much as us without CL, so might as well have the less stable one miss out IMHO).

Plus Chelsea are getting a new manager so they won't have a settled squad so it wouldn't matter that much if they qualify or not, Liverpool not being in the CL would set them back a little.

I don't see this personally. Yeah Thurs-Sun messes things up but I don't see any departures there regardless, Keita already locked in and do you really think players will not be interested in a move there after lighting up the CL? They actually pay similar wages and fees to Chelsea now. Outdated view IMHO.

Yup, Liverpool don't have the same attraction as Chelsea who are London based at least with Chelsea they can still attract and keep big players via wages and location, also no CL stops their momentum a little bit which is the most important thing for me, the Thurs/Sun thing is a drain on your season.

Liverpool missing out will be funnier than Chelsea for me, so I’m going with that.

(I’m loving how this thread has now changed into something that’s got nothing to do with us now)

Firstly, a great achievement to finish in the top 4 once again. It was only 9 years ago, after many futile attempts, that we finally qualified for The Champions League and it would be another 6 years (!) until we qualified for it again. To qualify three years on the bounce reflects how much progress we have made and to finish 3rd from here would the icing on the cake.

I'm not particularly surprised that our form has dropped off in recent weeks. First we had the huge disappointment of going out to Juvetnus in a tie we dominated and then the even bigger disappointment of losing to Utd in what was our last shot of silverware for the season. Despite this, we have still picked up 10 points in 6 matches since the Chelsea win which while not exactly setting the league alight places us 6th in the form table.

Finally we've had to overcome the Wembley factor which many of us were worried about at the beginning of the season.

All in all, another excellent season in somewhat strange and challenging circumstances with some fantastic league wins against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea some glorious European nights against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and for large parts Juvetnus.

I'd usually 100% agree with that but this year I think it's different. Especially if this is enough to push out Chelsea's world class players (Hazard and Courtois seem to be twitchy). My wife is Chelsea :yuck: so I see a lot of them. Conte is a great manager when not sulking, they won't get better tactically, their squad has weakened big time over the last few years, even though they may pick up a title and FA Cup in that period.

Not to mention Chelsea being the main domestic rival we would have for Martial, no matter unlikely us signing him is.

The Europa point stands strong though, LFC will be a big league threat for sure. I think either possibility is a positive for us, and LFC bottling it twice would be beyond hilarious, but unless Roman is willing to put another huge chunk of cash in again, Chelsea are in bigger jeopardy than most people realise IMO.
