Modric clearly stated when he signed that Ramos was one of, if not the, reasons why he choses to come to Spurs.

Now, Dos Santos has reportedly said in his statement that Ramos was the main factor in his choosing Spurs (assuming he will come).

Ramos clearly appears to have some pulling power and I hope there is more to come. Given the reported price for Dos Santos, the budget should certainly allow for more signings.

IMO, Ramos is clearly living up to his end of the bargain and now the players need to do the same on the pitch or, ultimately, we will see Ramos and the big players heading out the door again.

This coming season will, potentially, be the most important season for the club for the past God knows how many years.

Is Ramos really shaping up to be the saviour we are expecting??

Don't forget Woodgate said exactly the same thing.
People really don't seem to realise the importance of having a top manager with a winning reputation - he attracts quality players and makes Comollis job a lot easier.
I suggested a few weeks ago that this was one of the reasons why Jol was replaced - his reputation in football, either as a manager or a player was'nt recognised outside of White Hart Lane and we just could'nt attract enough quality players.
I agree with your other point about the coming season being the most important in our recent history - Levy has backed Ramos 100% by making finances available for new players, our fans will back him by paying the increase in season tickets to allow him to buy these new players and he MUST deliver - to fail, well that just does'nt bear thinking about!

who knows what other x-men type powers Juande possesses, clearly his powers of hypnosis are remarkable!
maybe he can suggestively undermine Ar5ena1 and the chavs by using his jedi mind tricks:grin:

Juande is clearly a very attractive option for a player to work with - he has won things, but is still looking to progress onto bigger and better things, and hopefully it shows that the players want the same things.

As much as I loved the guy, I dont think Jol would have had anywhere near this pulling power.

Ramos definatly looks to be a class above Jol , it will be interesting to see how Jol gets on at Hamburg.

Ramos has bee around a while longer and Jols career looks equaly as good if not better compared to Ramos at the same stage.

Am i right in thinking Jol was offered the Ajax job yet turned it down to stay at spurs? He has just taken one of the german leagues top jobs ....so not really true that he doesnt have status abroad.

This is true but what means a successful season for us this year? Top 6? Top 4? Cup victory??

For me I still don't expect us to get top 4 but I hope for a top 6 finish but more importantly I want to see an improvement in the way we play. I hope that we can play more in the final 3rd and dominate games especially against lower teams. Also a semi-final in the Uefa or Fa cup would be good.

Make Berb stay and as importantly happy about staying and we've got a chance of 5th or 6th. 4th position depends on others failing becasue i don't think we can expect our team to get 75+ pts which is likely to be the 4th place target.

A success for Ramos is over 60pts in the league.,Competitive run in the cups, a 50% improvement on goals conceeded and value for money entertainment.

Berbatov said a major factor in him coming was Martin Jol.

You've hit on a good point, which is that it's not really relevant to say that we're aiming for 4th or 5th, a points target makes more sense cos it's actually in our hands. The year Everton finished 4th, I believe they didn't even reach 60 points. The year we missed out on 4th on the last day of the season we ended up with 65 points.

Personally I think there's no reason we can't make 65+ points next year, and we'll see where that gets us.

You, sir, talk a lot of sense.

I've always said that if (on average) you win your home games and draw your away games you'll end up with 76pts, which is enough to finish in the top four.

Another interesting stat is that you don't have to beat the top 4 to win the league. If you beat every other team in the league twice, but gained 0pts from the top 4, then you'd end up with 90pts, and a Premiership title

A little ambitious, I know, but it gives me confidence that there's every opportunity to finish hig hup the league table.

Also, I don't think there's such a gap in the skill levels of players in the Premiership, as the press and SKy would like to make out. I think winning is down to coaching methods and mentality; being able to sustain a period of form for long sections of the season. This is where a good manager and coaching staff come into play.

Oh, and luck with injuries!

Another factor that need to be considered is whether the teams which are banded with us will strengthen significantly. Right now there seems to be a lot of rumours about Shitty trying to go big; and if that turns out true, it'll be quite a battle to try to get into top 4. I'm dismissing the likes of Blackburn and Portsmouth as they probably cannot strengthen much. But a dark horse could be Everton particularly if Moyes can get in 3 or 4 more mid-range players to augment his squad.

It's true. Players see Ramos in the while his players lift the various cups celebrating with streamers everywhere and they want a bit of that :)

Hopefullywhen they do the same with us they will have better footwork than Keanes league cup jig.

Ramos needs a really good pre-season, with a relatively settled team going into the league. If we are in the situation MJ was in a couple of years back, where we started with almost a new team, that had never played with each other, it could take weeks or months for the results to start coming in as Ramos wants. By which time, we could be too far behind the top 5 or 6 to catch up.
We might well be excited by the quality of the players that we are buying, but adjusting to English football does take time and Dos Santos will find it difficult at first, as will any other younger incomer to our game.
It's really important we've a strong core of 'experienced' players to get us underway, bringing in the others as they pick up the game.

We've still got a lot of ins and outs (for us and our rivals) to come before the new season starts so i still think its a bit pointless talking about how we'll fare next year as we dont really know what our best XI is gonna look like, let alone what our rivals' are gonna have at their disposal.

All we can say is that we are showing the sort of ambition in the transfer market required to make strides in the right direction - but didn't we all say that lastsummer when we spent large sums on Bent, Kaboul and KPB and ended up taking a step backwards in some respects?

As for Ramos' contribution to transfers, that is indeed encouraging. And I'd bet on us landing Sergio Garcia too due to Juande's rep in Spain. But his ability to bring in the right players counts for very little until he's proven he can get them playing football in the right way and getting the right results to make those strides forward.

Personally I am really starting to admire Ramos and his pull that he has for some really top class players, modric and now dos santos...........am starting to get excited.

I really think we need to be looking for a confident top 6 finsh, and I would really like a cup also.....but when it comes down to it......without the panic of previous seasons and I will be content......

Well I'm a big Ramos fan, and said within a month of him joining he'll be our best manager since Burkinshaw and it wouldn't surprise me if he became our best mnanger since Billy Nick

So far so good - our first trophy in 9 years - now lets get Europe for 4 years in a row (when did we last do that, and yes Jol gets as much credit for this if acheived as JR) and at least 8th in the league - do me fine :)

I think our main focuses will be the UEFA Cup and the League this season, we won a cup, yay. For sustained progress we need CL. But I agree, 6thish and a Cup win or cup final would be a good season.

If Spurs can win a major trophy and finish top6 in the league and getting deep into the other cups then it will have been a good season and they can build from there
