Our fitness coach, Marcos Alvarez, talking to Guillem Balague [my emphasis]:

This week's Revista de la Liga caught up with Tottenham's fitness coach Marcos Alvarez, who filled Guillem Balague in on life at White Hart Lane.

The old stadium has been rocking recently as Juande Ramos has overseen an upturn in Premier League fortunes and delivered a first trophy in nine years.

The former Sevilla coach is getting used to delivering silverware following back-to-back UEFA Cup victories with the Andalucian club, so what is the secret of his success?

"He came with his philosophy - to play a quick, passing game with wingers, but compact," Alvarez told Guillem.

"He brought with him the way he played in Spain. His philosophy is to attack, to keep moving forward with the ball.

"But the main reason he is a top manager is because he understands very well the mentality of the players. He tries not to speak a lot, but when speaks he speaks very clearly. That is the most important thing."

Ramos is still getting to grips with the finer points of the English language, and he and his coaches have ahd a useful buffer in the shape of former Spurs player and current coach Gus Poyet.

"I think Gus was very important for us when we arrived," Alvarez said. "He knows the mentality of the English players, English clubs and the mentality of a Spanish coach."

And what of the Sevilla Ramos left behind? The importance of their former manager has been illustrated by a relatively lacklustre La Liga cmpaign to date and a Champions League exit at the hands of unfancied Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Alvarez said: "I was surprised they went out because they are a very good team and have players with a lot of experience of this type of match. I'm really sorry for them.

"When you win things, all the supporters want you to keep going and win more, but it's really difficult. The top teams in Europe sometimes play two or three years without winning anything."

Yes.... which is why he will hate the way Lennon has no end product. My tip for the summer window: Lennon out, Dawson out.

Lennon in - Is a class act on his day and still learning so give the guy a break.

Steed out though I'm afraid

Sad to say but we need a pacey natural left footer on the left wing

Indeed.

Just because Lennon doesn't have an awesome whipping cross people say he has no end product, he brings a hell of a lot more to our game and we seriously miss him when he's not playing. It totally disrupts our flow.

His name is Diego Capel. When he rotates with Gilberto and Bale on the left flank next season, we'll have three sweet left feet where, until recently, we had none...

I wish we could get Capel, he would take our game to another level from the left side. He is an awesome player and has started to score some goals now. I can't believe he is only 19-20 Eek

He likes to attack down the wings? Interesting. I'm glad the papers caught up with astute posters on this site, who having watched Sevilla, knew this the minute the rumor started. But I'm glad Ballugue took 5 minutes out of his busy schedule of praising everything and all things Rafa to pay attention.

note: I was NOT one of those people.

In fact, judging by his Sevilla team, Ramos loves to attack with wingers and full backs. Dani Alves is one of the most attacking FBs in world football. And ahead of him at Sevilla is Jesus Navas, who's also very attacking.

Our signings in January included Hutton and Gilberto - both very attacking FBs, and Ramos selected Gareth Bale at LB on the few occasions he was available to him.

Next season, I suspect we'll see Hutton, Lennon, Steed and Gunter bombing down the right flank. And Bale, Gilberto and hopefully Diego Capel (or someone similar) attacking down the left.

Lennon is learning...

but who can he learn off? We have no other wingers to help him develop. He's expected to improve and learn but there's no seasoned pro or competition to help him or to push him harder.

Im sorry guys but I just can't understand how no one else gets pissed off by Lennon's inability to cross!? Just think of all the great wingers we've had: Jones, Galvin, Waddle, Ginola.... even Etherington can cross FFS. I just don't see how having played football for 15 years the guy still can't kick a football properly. I'm not saying he has no talent, I think he is an exceptionally talented dribbler and his close control at high speed is breathtaking at times. But I would rather have someone like Bentley who would be giving Berbs quality crosses all day long. How many headers does Dimi score from Lennon crosses?

Lennon's perfect for Ramos's style of play, he's the quickest winger around and finally can put a good cross in the box, the goals will come for the lad, he's only 20 for feck sake, give the guy a break, under Ramos he will only get better as he learns more from him, he's one of our best players at present and will be for a long time to come.

Lennon will be going nowhere! I imagine he fits into Ramos' plans very well, and as already stated, attacking with wingers and full backs gives us options that we desperately lacked.
Apart from that, its much better to watch!

I'm willing to sacrifice crossing for everything else he brings to our game to be honest.

We wouldn't be nearly as effective without him & I might add our trouble has never been with scoring goals, it's at the other end.

Our strikers do just fine.

Out of the first team maybe, I dont think he will be sold though.

He offers alot to us as a squad. he can play anywhere across the midfield, can run shoot and tackle. He has a high work rate and a lot of tenasity.

I dont imagion he is on excessive wages and I also doubt we could get a huge fee for him if we were to sell him.

Basically im saying he is worth more to us as a squad player (who could fight for his place with whoever dislodges him) then he would be to sell.

He may well be used more as an attacking centre midfielder next year, rotating with JJ depending on who is brought in.

I seriously doubt he will be sold though, I dont see the logic (unless he wanted to move if he was out the first team, which I doubt)
