I think it's fair to say our season is over, whether we finish 11th or 12th in the league it won't make a difference with how we look back on 2007/08.

At the beginning of the season few would have hoped for top 12 and the league cup but with the change in manager, the injuries in defence and the general disturbances that have hindered our season how would you rate it?

Well, we did win a cup and qualify for Europe, but taking our main (realistic?) objectives into consideration, it's been a very disappointing season. Since our elimination from the Uefa cup we have had nothing to play for.

Bring back Gross:eek:mg:. ..

Ramos has brought in a new set up, that the players will have to pick up. Fitness during games has improved, but sustaining it over the season will be difficult.

Silverware is silverware, great to have even if it only the Carling cup.

League was poor, should be in the top lot fighting for europe.

To be fair, the league has been much worse than poor, both pre and post Ramos. I can only think of three games with any fondness this year, city away, arsenal at home and chelsea, all in the league cup obviously and therefore for me you have to look at it as a bad year considering the optimism surrounding the boards in august.

My god you people are hard to please!

League form was crap, but there were still those heart pounding, jumping up with delight and stupid smile on your face moments during it like the Villa 4-4, and the 10 goal Reading game. Even after the cup win we still destroyed Spam 4-0 and had that brilliant 4-4 with Chelsea.

Talking of the cup, holy shit! I'm still giggling like a school girl over that! I have been waiting years for us to do Arsenal properly and put that fielding reserve team nonsense where it belongs. And then to finish it off against Chelsea with their 'fans' bemoaning the lack of support they give their own club these days.... perfect. Knocked out of the FA cup by the league faves, and knocked out late on in the UEFA by the then faves on penalties.... not entirely shameful.

Yes league form was rubbish, though we haven't had much luck this season on that front, but we won a cup beating two of our derby rivals in the process in the most unbelievably satisfying way, with Berbs hugging a crying Keane and people I didn't know hugging a crying me, full spread centre page pics in the papers of the cup winners....

We'll make up for all that silly league nonsense (which nobody ever remembers long term anyway) next season, but this season provided two of the happiest moments in my life. And yes, I probably am a very sad man. :shake:

We took a big step backwards while those chasing us took a giant leap forwards. Bad season, and jugjing from our recent performances it would be very optimistic for anyone to say its the start of bigger things until we know what our squad and starting XI is gonna be next season. At the moment if anyone tried to (honestly) predict our starting XI in August right now, I think they'd have about 5 question marks, including skipper and a partner for Keane.

i say poor, taken too many steps backwards this season! and even though we did win a cup it still doesnt paper over enough of the cracks to alow us to be playing like we are or where we probably will finish!! yes we wont a cup, but if it was the FA cup or UEFA cup i would be alot more happy! but a cup is a cup and it signles hope for the future

We won a trophy after 9 barren years- what, Villa, Everton, Newcastle would die for but IMO our league form has been disgraceful... we haven't won enough games away from the lane and the development of certain players has gone backwards ie. Robinson and Dawson.

TOTAL SUCCESS

we won a trophy, competed in virtually all our games against the big boys, including those 2 games away to United which we should have won 1 of!

ALso we finally won a trophy, if you look at what Ramos came in to, and what he has achieved already!

I think also the way we played for a period of time, between maybe December and end of Feb was very good and committed and was a good indication.

OK league hasn't been great and after the CC win w've not been at the races, but been a very entertaining season to say the least.

I would classify it as a success - football is about winning and we've finally done it after 9 odd years! I think some people are way too fickle if they classify this season as anything less than a success - GET REAL.

well said hybrid - how people can't see this season has been a success is beyond me - but it's all about opinions etc :)

just cant be happy with finishing bottom half really, especialy after so much talk of us having a squad ableto push for another top 5 or push into the top 4, yes winning a cup is brining in some success.

or maybe some people had higher hopes for us that bottom half of the table? as i have said, its no FA cup or UEFA cup we won, IMO we have taken steps back this year and our league positioning shows this, the carling cup papers over only so much of those cracks for me!

I wouldnt say i am being fickle or other fans by saying its not been a successfull season, i am over the moon with winning a cup (as i am sure others are), but dont know how people can be happy with a bottom half finish after 2 seasons of finishing 5th and pushing for the top 4 and then to be no where near it this year! if it was the FA cup or Uefa cup, then that might have helped more, but the Carling Cup is the lowest of the 3 IMO, but a cup is a cup and some people will just take that
