I’m accepting apologies from Spurs Community regarding Erik Lamela and Tanguy N’Dombele. As usual, I was right on both players. They are, in fact, very good and key players. Thanks. Lamela MOTM btw. Special mentions to Dier, Tanguy and Reguilon.

I don't recall ever reading that anyone had doubted N'dombele's ability, just the players application of said ability had been questionable, thankfully that seems to be behind him....As for Lamela, again no question marks over his hunger, industry and desire, that said he has a few flaws in his game but he played well tonight, very well.

Some really impressive performances today.

A few under the radar picks, Tanganga I thought did an excellent job and was up against Werner for most of it and did incredibly well. Strong and I loved it when he just threw one of their players to the floor. You can see why Jose loves him, I think he will play alot more than people expect this season.

The full backs (both), reg was a performance of a hyperactive child. Just unbelievable, a bit of nerves at the start but soon became our most attacking outlet. The pace of the lad.

Special mention to Serge A on the other side who comes in for a lot of stick on here but it is difficult when we only attack down one side (predictable). Having the Serge's could be the way to go.

The only negs come from the centre of the park, Sissoko was imo an utter disgrace. This is going to sound harsh but we were one down with 20 minutes to go we have free kick and he walks over puts the ball down and then walks away from the ball.

Just a coward of a footballer. Never shows for the ball and goes hiding.

Now this is where I have a bit of sympathy for gedson, he had to try to dribble it out as whenever he had the ball Sissoko would go into hiding, ndombele was class enough not to worry but very few cm can play next to moussa and look good. I still however think gedson is too passive. (A problem for our whole team in the first half)

Anyway last player I want to mention is Steve, who I really like because he is such an intelligent footballer and technically superb. He struggled like most in the first half but improved for the but of the second. I am really looking forward to seeing how this kid develops.

Oh and Erik who goes in the love and hate category but a fantastic option to have and a leader in the pitch. Just wish he wouldn't dither so fucking much on the ball.

Mom could be dier, reg or Lamela. But on the whole it probably has to go to Eric.

Good to see us winning a penalty shoot out.
Apart from the first 20-25 minutes I thought we were the better team and if we’d had a Cf from the get go would have won in normal time.
Lamela the obvious MOM. A non stop action man but he’s not to learn he can’t do it all by himself. It’s so frustrating watching him try to bulldoze his way through 3 or 4 players when a pass is the simpler option.
Lots of good things to take away from the game. Mourinho seems to finally beginning to instill a fighting spirit and resilience in them.
NDombele got another 90 minutes under his belt and a really good game. Once he’s up to full speed he’s going to be awesome.
Aurier also had a really good game. Put a huge shift in.
I thought Tanganga was very good given it was his first minutes back from injury. I like huu it a determination.
I thought Gedson had a good game but I always feel he’s too withdrawn. I always feel he ( and Sess) don’t look like they feel part of the group and so they play so tentatively. I think there is a really good player in there if he only had more regular playing time to give him more confidence.
Apart from the first 20 minutes when the intensity of the PL overwhelmed him a little Reguilon had a great game. He’s going to be a big star for us.
Dier was immense given he’d played 2 days ago where he suffered the disappointment of giving a totally illogical penalty away.
I’m not a Sissoko hater but he can’t play regularly for us. He has so little faith in his own technical ability that moves break down when the ball’s passed to him because he has no confidence in his own ability to make a telling forward pass so he always takes the safe option which is usually backwards.
I actually thought Berwijn played well especially in the second half.
Overall a very good morale boosting win. It could be a turning point.

Lamela was frustrating a few times with hanging onto the ball but he put in a totally committed performance for the whole 90 minutes. He deserves the MOTM.

Love the potential of the Sergio and Serge combination down the flanks and really would like to see Aurier stick around. Him and Doherty give us real depth in that position.

Gedson for me had a decent game and didn’t look out of place. Dier and Toby were solid and a great ball by Dier that led to the goal. Tanganga was ok but that mistake could have and should have been costly.

Much improved second half and credit to Jose swapped it up and used the bench well. Five fantastic penalties!

All-round good performance after a shaky start.

Reg was great, as was Ndombele, but thought Hojbjerg had such a hugely positive impact and Aurier was really excellent and could have had a couple of assists.

On Aurier I think about how years ago Walker was often shown up when we had an imbalanced team and only become a real force when Poch implemented a Wanyama & Dembele midfield and better defensive unit. A player like Serge will do miles better this year with genuine competition, but more importantly more cover from players such as Hojbjerg and Gio.
